Ticking noise under the hood...

Loose rocker arm maybe?? Bad lifter? I was out using the nitrous today and beat on the car pretty good. I took it out to my parents and visited them for awhile. As I was leaving their place I noticed a ticking noise that progressively got louder on the way home. I popped the hood and it sounds like it's coming from the drivers side valve cover. Will a loose rocker arm sound like this or could I possibly have a bad lifter? I didnt have any time to start pulling things apart and I really didnt feel like it :rolleyes: Anyone have a rocker arm come loose before? I sure hope thats what it is :thud: How much is a new set of lifters? Anyhow, if you have any info that may help, I'd like to hear it. Thanks!

Yeah, they are stud mount. I know I should get under the hood and look at things more closely but I figured I'd post it and get some ideas anyhow. I guess if it is a lifter, those arent priced as much as I thought they might be.

I'll start pulling things apart tomorrow night.

Thanks for the offer! That could be a possibility Dan. I'll let you know. I may even go over there tonight and start looking at things. I've been searching around the net and some people have had "ticking" from a bad header gasket too, so I'll check that. My brother had his headers loosen up once and it sounded like a rod knock so I didnt think of that. I guess ahything is possible.

I'd rather rely on used stock lifters than frpp replacements...lol

are you sure it isn't an exhaust leak?


just make sure it isn't a broken valvespring...if you're really unlucky they break at idle in your backyard after you spend everyday after work for a week replacing the entire cooling system and fuel pump heh

Thats what I am hoping for....even a loose rocker arm would be alright with me. I'll find out tomorrow after work.
