View Full Version : Indecision clouds my plans...

Ok, don't roll your eyes after you read this... ;)
As everybody by now knows, I bought another car last fall; "Black Betty"
I have been spending money on it and I have/had plans for the car. Plus she makes me eligible for the famed Black Mustang Posse. :D
HOWEVER... Back many years ago, I bought a 1993 Limited Edition LX ragtop off the showroom floor at SMOKDU's (Mark's) Ford dealership. This car was one of my all-time favorite Mustangs. It was the car that got Mark interested in our hobby (Look at what HE drives! :hehe: ) and it also is the car I owned when I met Fritz and Sue (Portponies and wife). I sold the car when my daughter was born and regretted it very much. (Regretted selling the car, not the birth of my daughter!)
Anyway, I tend to browse E-Bay a lot, and came across this:
http://www.midwestmustangassociation.com/vb3/uploads/yellow1.jpg
http://www.midwestmustangassociation.com/vb3/uploads/yellow2.jpg
http://www.midwestmustangassociation.com/vb3/uploads/yellow3.jpg
I am currently the top bidder with a day or so to go, but the reserve has not been met. I have had extensive discussions with the owner, who is a very nice guy, and if nobody over-bids me and makes his reserve price (which he has disclosed to me) there is a strong possibility that we will work a deal. The carfax on this car comes back excellent and it only has 77,000 miles on it. Brand new top, and it's not overly modified so I can restore it to totally correct condition. These cars have some value as a collectable Fox also.
This presents several problems however.... I will have to part with one of my other cars. Selling Nice Asp is pretty much out of the question. That leaves Betty.
To add to the mix, Ray, one of the owners of GLD, is very interested in Betty. He wants to get a Fox body Mustang for his wife Michelle to run in the Street class of the Summit Series. They are thinking this over and also waiting for me to decide what I want to do.
If I can get the yellow car, I would rather have it. Don't ask me why, I just do! Plus Missie would really enjoy it also, as would Margi.
So... a lot could happen here in the next few days. If the yellow car falls thru, and that's entirely possible, then I have a plan for Betty that is somewhat expensive but the results should be rather interesting too. :D
Sigh... Decisions, decisions!!! :thud:

Missie must really love you. If i had multiple Mustangs and plan to buy another, Casandra would hang me by my toes! Looks good though! Mikey will need a nice Mustang soon:D
Greg@GLD
03-30-2006, 07:52 AM
Well... Since you mentioned that... Missie already considers Betty to be "her Mustang" and she says that the Tweety car would be hers also. ;)
I just have the right to drive either whenever I please. :D
Mike obviously wants us to keep the black car.... Our cars are ours, not "mine".
Follow your heart Greg.
You well know that if things work out it is for a reason.
I think the decision will be presented to you.

Well greg, you already have one bad a$$ racer I think it would be kind of nice to have one pure street/show drop top to cruse around in. Not to mention you dont really see a lot of the yellow feature cars around. Just my thoughts, but either way good luck

You and I think alike here. :D Having a nice cruiser that isn't so "high maintenance" is very desireable. Would be nice to have a driver car and ragtops rock. Plus it's far from being "common" car.

Yes I know about his funny car..... Im talking about him wanting one as a driver.
everything will work out greg. i think that yellow car will make a great addition to the family and will look great next to nice asp.

this is a tough call, but that yellow vert looks very nice. If you have the ability to pick up this yellow vert and you have the ability to sell the black hatch, then go for it. At least thats what I would do. It Appears this is what its come down to:
Have an already slightly modded car and the only real way to go with it is to mod it more, but you already have nice asp for that
or
have a nice bone stock vert, still a peppy car, as just a weekend cruiser with the top down. but still have nice asp in the background for when you want to go fast.

Well Greg, FWIW, I’ll say this. From my perspective, when you sold the Mach, I thought you had lost your mind. Bidding seriously on the yellow vert shows me that rehab was successful and you are on the road to recovery. :thumbs_up

Knock some walls down in your house and make the garage bigger. j/k
Greg, that yellow vert looks really nice! That's a tough call, but Nice Asp will always be there for you when you want to go fast.....

Greg,
I noticed how you talked about that diecast of that aniversary car. I say do it! That black hatch will always be able to be sold. Those yellow verts are tight!

03-30-2006, 12:42 PM
That would be a super nice car to have! So it the black hatch! So no matter what happens it's all good!

03-30-2006, 12:47 PM
Go for the 'vert. You can always find another black betty to hack up and make fast, but the opportunity to find a clean 'vert doesn't always present itself.

03-30-2006, 01:42 PM
Hey Greg I would do the vert, then at car shows my car would have a brother car next to it.. The value of these "Feature Cars" are not going down any soon.. Can you see the yellow vert next to a white feature car, minus the white ponys..
quietflow
03-30-2006, 02:33 PM
I have heard you talk about that vert many times Greg. If the oppurtunity presents itself I say take it. That is a very nice collectable car and it would be nice to have a driver. Not that Betty isnt fun also!

The exclusivity of a 93 SE Vert should make the decision on its own.

hey Greg there is a guy out of Delvan I believe he has a 93 yellow vert, auto car with a vortech a trim all polished I know the car has 38,000 on the clock and he was asking $11k for it last year.. He was also at the planes manes and mustangs.. I know the car was on e-bay for awhile, anybody know this car? I know it was pretty nice..

Greg, I realize this is a tough decision. Im sure you are having fun with black betty, and you probably have developed a bond with it by now im sure. But look at it this way. you have a history with this yellow fox. Its something you have wanted back for years and you talk about it alot. There are so many black foxes out there but these yellow verts are not so common. If it were me, i would take the yellow vert. plus, its still a project you and your son can work on together just like black betty was.
Follow your heart with this one greg. By the sounds of it, you already know which way it wants to go :thumbs_up

03-30-2006, 08:16 PM
Sell Betty to the guy at GLD, you know there's a "project" with her for you and Mikey. The yellow is another chance at the car you really liked, can be a "different project" so to speak but still a "less expensive" one haha. I had simialr thoughts on my old DHG BULLITT Greg. Out of all my Fast Fords you know I've had the BULLITT had a special place and was my favorite, yes even above my old monster 03 Cobra. Good Luck in your decision. Just a little personal insight here Bro.

Swap engines between Nice ASP and Black Betty, keep BB, and then buy the vert.. That way you can still be part of the Black Mustang Posse!! :thumbs_up Good luck with your decision.

Thanks everybody for all the replies. Wow!
Joel- Ray is interested in the black car for his wife, not for him. Michelle likes Fox Body mustangs and is looking for one. They want to build a bracket car so she can race in the street class this year. This car would make quite the bracket car. Regardless, Ray has always liked my Mustangs, especially the Mach1... I let him and Michelle race it a few times and they were very impressed at how fast and comfortable it was...
Anyhow thanks again for the comments.
I dunno what to do here. I really do like the black car, I haven't had it long but I have "bonded" with it in a way. But that vert... mmmmmmmm....!
A lot depends on John and what he wants to do. He thinks the bidding will heat up again tomorrow when the auction is almost over. There were two other guys bidding but they backed off after I "responded" with a higher bid. One of them is a dealer anyway, so if the car gets too high he won't be able to make as much profit so maybe that will cool him off.
If I keep the black car, I will be tearing it down soon... :hehe:

do whatever you want Greg........ if you want to be like the other Mark & not like me, then get the yellow car & sell the black car. I'm fine with it really, I'll get over it.
my buddy got the same car your looking at back in 2002. it had apx 30,000 miles on it. we drove to Ohio to get it 1 weekend. I think he paid about 8 grand for it at the time.
the bad thing is that he never got a winter car. so now it's got 250,000 miles on it & starting to rust.
I would get the yellow car & keep it stock (if you can) because I think it will be worth some $ in 2050.....

I'm staying black.
Spoke to the guy just a few minutes ago... He says his brother will pay him more than I will if it does not meet reserve. I told him what I'd pay. He says nope, he needs more and his brother will pay it. So I thanked him and told him I hope his brother enjoys the car.
Yes I am still the top bidder but reserve is not met and I doubt that it will. If it does, great.
So that's that.

Yup. I decided on a limit, and I won't go a dime higher. He originally told me he would sell it for that amount if it didn't fetch what he wanted on E-Bay. Perhaps he feels I might really want the car badly and have more money to spend, but I don't and I won't. Like I said, nice guy and all but I am not budging from where I'm at and I don't expect he will either..

Well the auction ended an hour ago, and somebody bid a little higher than my $7100, but I had my own "reserve" set at $7500 so the "final" bid was $7355. (me)
Car didn't sell. So it looks like his brother is buying it. He had it set for a $9500 reserve...
