View Full Version : Trains vs. Stupid People

So this wealthy area south of Slinger decides a year or so ago that they don't want any noise from trains polluting their area even though they are the stupid ****ers that decided to build their houses next to the tracks. Gee, I wonder why the land was so cheap  They passed a no whistle ordinance that covers about 6 or 7 crossings thru this area. They put up plastic dividers (they look like poles) in the road to try to discourage people from driving around the gates but if you drive over these dividers they just bend over and spring back up when you get over them so they really serve no purpose. Tonight one of our trains struck a van at one of these crossings as the van went around the gates and tried to out run the train. The train hit him at 50mph. He was dead on impact. Because of his lack of patience he now has a widow that must raise their children alone. What I am struggling with is this whistle ordinance. Would a whistle possibly discourage him from trying to beat the train? Would it have made him think twice? This was the second crossing fatality in two days. Every year more and more of these whistle ordinances pop up and every year more and more people and SCHOOL BUSES FULL OF CHILDREN try to out run trains. What is the point of this post? Nothing really, I just wanted to vent and hopefully discourage any of you from being stupid and trying to out run a train.

Its hard to believe people can't wait for a train. Some people shouldn't have a licence to drive a car.I've seen a few car vs train wrecks where I live and yea sometimes I'm P.Od when a train comes through but it takes like 5 mins for it to pass. If you don't like it turn around and find another way dumbasses.I've lived here 31+ years and I know all the shortcuts.
sounds just like the people that built their houses near byron dragway and say it's too loud for them now.

I like waiting for choo-choo's. Reminds me of when I was a little fart and sat in my kid seat yealling CHOO-CHOO!!! out the window. Ahh the good old days. I feel bad about the surviving victims though. I go through this everyday in my semi when someone needs to cut me off and slam on the brakes. I know for sure I won't feel a thing though....

Ya know. In the past I've done it. I probably deserved to die the last time I did it. I was on a bike and the train missed me by only a few feet. I had no business even being on that bike in the first place. I've never done it since and never will again. Unfortunately, everybody is rushing to get anywhere and they continue to take more and more short cuts. Maybe it's old age but lately I have no problem letting off the gas so the Semi in the left lane can get into the right lane if he wants, or slowing down at tracks and double checking both ways. No time line or destination is worth that risk.

One time I was going up to Marinette and my wife was driving. We came to a railroad crossing just as the gates were going down. She stopped looked down the tracks and the train was waaaaaay down there. So she stomps the gas and goes around. I started screaming at her, I was so mad....then bam there is cop and we get pulled over. Not only did she get a butt chewing from me, but she got a pretty good one from the cop. I still kinda get mad at her when ever the conversation comes up cuz quite frankly I don't care how far down the train is...sit your azz there and wait.

I read a bumper sticker on a car in OH that said " Airports, the sound of freedom"
meaning you can't have one without the other
like you said Darrell, the land was cheap, so they move in, and change stuff thats designed to save lives for personal convenience.
I drove for 3 1/2 years back and forth thru Chitown in my KW, I know how stupid people can be and there ain't enough bandwidth to share all my experiences
I feel bad for those kids from what their old man did

un friggin believeable and i suppose the railroad is gonna get sued and there will be a bid debate of who s fault it is. if you get hit by a train period you are a dumbass and if you live you should be forced to pay for any and all damages that occured to the train and whatever else. who the hell runs a train crossing duh. train vs anything equals you lose. yeah i feel sory for the guys family dont take it the wrong way but maybe its a wake up to a whole area of people. darrell i doubt a whistle would have changed this jmo.
Absolutely not. If anything this railroad will sue the family for mainline damage and train delays. Food for thought, at 60 mph an average 100 car train start to finish will be past you at a crossing in about 1 minute. Slower trains will keep you tied up for 5 to 10 minutes.......hardly worth playing with danger.

I think the whistle is a good thing, yea people still run it but i've lived by the tracks my whole life and I dont even notice them anymore. I think the whistle helps with children too. I think its dumb that just because those ppl didnt want to hear it that they think it should be stopped. Thats Dumb. The whistle also helps for intersections that dont have the rail road dinggers i call them. They should jsut have what they have in ITALY!!! The whole road ways is blocked by the Dinggers when they go down and you think that you have to wait long for the trains here your crazy. You sit there for about 10 mins(not kidding) for a 4 car train to go by which is going slow too. Its very frustrating but I bet they dont have any car vs train accidents.
