Heard this one on the radio last night going to Penny Road Pub where my buddies were playing for a record label. If you are smoking anywhere including your car while you are driving they can give you a $50 ticket because of their politics and BS. I hate to say this but i smoke and cant for the life of me figure out why the hell it is such a big deal to people that dont!! Whats next, gonna have to say "Yesser masser i'll be real good from now on Mr Kates" when you get pulled over. I think cities etc are getting a little carried away with the power that they have and the only people we can thank for it is the voters that keep saying yes to these stupid by-laws. At least Madison you can still smoke in 1 or 2 spots lol

I understand smokers feel they have a right to smoke. It's their life their choice etc. But, what about my right to breath. You can do whatever you want in the privacy of your own home, vehicle whatever. But the second your right to smoke invades my right to breath, that's where I draw the line. I gotta agree the whole ticketing you for smoking in your car is ridiculous, but I support no smoking in public places.

I wish they would do the same about chewing tobacco!

Yup as an ex smoker keep it out of public places period. What does a smoker say to someone who has lung cancer but never smoked? Getting ticketed for smoking in a car is a little weird unless it is there to stop the littering of butts out the window. That to me is nasty.

I often wondered why smokers run from burning buildings, rather than into them.
Seems to me they could save a whole lot of money and time by inhaling the toxins from a free fire.

It's going to depend on your perspective I guess... From a non-smoker persepective I could care less about so called "smokers rights" but I do have concerns about freedom of choice and such. But when a person's choices begin to encroach upon my well being, I choose my well being over your choice. :D
I think sometimes we also forget that "government" is not some faceless entity hell-bent on destroying your rights. It's made up of other human beings. I think non-smokers have become fed-up with the high cost of health insurance, smelly clothes, ruined meals, discarded butts all over the place and are begining to fight back.
You could argue that smoking is ruining our economy in several ways and is directly responsible for out-of-control health care costs. The same costs that are causing huge taxes in many counties as well as the problems faced by Ford, GM and Chrysler...
When I complain to my insurance company about the high rates for my family's health insurance, they say that the cost to treat sick smokers and smoking-related diseases is the reason for the high rates. The percentage of heart disease caused by obesity for example pales in comparison to smoking "damage".
The cost gets spread to everyone. Even though we pay less because we are healty non-smokers, we still pay to subsidize smoking.
Right to choose versus right to destroy one's self. It's a touchy subject. I think a person who wants to smoke himself to death in his car has the right to do that.
I think you smokers will not like it when they declare nicotine to be a dangerous and addictive drug...
"It's a legal activity" days may be numbered.
