I picked up my car today. Headers look great. Harold did a great job repairing them. We busted ass on the car all day trying to get it ready for saturday. However, the more you get done on the list the more problems you find. Engine wouldn't turn over with key. Broken wire, fixed. Oil looks like **** and its fresh oil. Valve lash is way excessive. Timing pointer doesn't match up to balancer so I had to get out the marker. I still have to swap u-joints, mount slicks, fit slicks on car, set pinion angle, align front end (try to myself anyway) and lots of other stuff. I will be amazed if the car is ready to go saturday. I'm ready to sell it. I'm sick of cars and sick of working on cars.

I dunno Darrell... the way you go, this sounds like an hour's worth of work...

I can relate to how you feel though. Sometimes I get sick of it too.

I don't know about you but I find working on my car one of the more relaxing things I do. Granted, gremlins get frustrating but I don't think I'd have it any other way. Picture yourself making passes to get through the tough stuff. Here's a teaser. :burnout: :burnout: :shifter: :shifter: :shifter: :shifter:

Darrell, I'm sure you'll get it wrapped up in time. If not, I'm sure you will have it done shortly there after.

And hey, if Mark is willing to help out, that should only speed thins up some. Good luck, bud.

Darrell I feel your pain, it's not easy going fast. I think the faster you go the less the parts bolt on. everything becomes custom & needs to be tweaked a little to make it work.
you change 1 thing & it will make you have to change 2 or 3 other things if not 4 or 5. I think thats why I feel like I build a new car every winter because of all the changes. I'm planing on taking a few days off this week so I can work on it for 4 days straight all day & night & try & make a few t&t passes, & then make the 1st race at US41 drag way on April 29th. :thud:

Worked on a few things today. I think I fixed my brake leak. I need to run new brake lines on the damn car eventually. I need to bleed the brakes. I mounted up the new slicks and boy do those W tires fill up that wheel well. The car sits so damn low that the subframes rub on the trailer when I load/unload the car. I still have a ton of work to do. The James gang called me today and offered their assistance so I'm going to try to change my schedule around this week so I can work on the car in the afternoon instead of 5am. If I can get the major stuff done, I can finish the little stuff at the track saturday.

Dang an -8!? 500 shot or what!?

Nope, gotta work.
I ended up not changing anything this year again, so I just need to make a few shake down passes before WFC.

yeah 500 on the 1st stage. I haven't figured out what the 2nd stage tune will be yet.......

JK :thumbs_up my little sbf can't handle a 500 shot...... I figured out at the end of last year with my data acc system that if I ran a -8 line it will help with keeping things consistent.

My car is ready to go, but I have some obligations. My supid family thinks I should have a birthday party. I hate partys. I also have a side job to do. That cash is how I afford most of this crazyness....

I've been working on the car non stop for the past couple days. I still haven't found time to sleep between the car and work but I guess I can sleep all I want when I'm dead. I ran some fresh oil threw the engine and dumped it right away. Some how about 2 quarts of water ended up in the oil. The funny thing is I haven't put a cooling system in the car yet much less any water. The oil came out full of shavings from just spinning the motor over. That scares me. But the oil pressure is good with fresh oil. I'll have to pull it apart after this weekend and check the bearings. I also noticed when I was adjusting the valves today the most of the rockers were on wrong which broke all of the adjusting nuts. It never ends. I fired it up today and reved her a few times. My neighbors weren't as happy as I was.......

She is almost done. I will be there saturday as long as the black cloud doesn't come back.

The filter was all water, not many metal shavings at all.

where is the water coming from if you haven't filled the cooling system???

You probably already know this but it can't hurt. It's standard practice to wash an engine after all the machine work is done. Most shops blow out all the passages pretty well after doing so but you should still do it again before assembling your engine. If someone else assembled it I'd guess they didn't do such a good job of blowing everything out.

It isn't freshly machined. It has about 25 passes on it already.

It is pretty much ready to go though. I need a radiator cap and I need to install the electric fan and put some screws in the interior and program the Digital 7. I tried aligning the front end in my garage and that didn't go over too well. Hopefully I'll get by saturday without destroying my front tires.

Car is loaded on the trailer. Of course the day wouldn't be complete without some kind of issue. Water poured out of the water pump after the motor warmed up a bit. I'm hoping that I just need to tighten the plug in the pump but either way it can't be anything major. Its a brand new CSR pump. The alignment is still way off. The caster is so far off the wheel doesn't want to come back straight on its own. Hopefully I don't destroy the tires tomorrow. I'll see ya'll at the Grove tomorrow!
