Anyone ever done this? I guess you have to etch the floor with some crazy acid then roll on the epoxy coating. A $58 dollar kit only covers 250 sq.ft. and I have 720 sq.ft. of garage floor...this is going to be mighty expensive.

The only color I can find is tan...ugly

Anyone have a coated floor? Is it slick? Will I be falling on my ass all the time? The garage has a fine finished/polished concrete floor right now that cleans up easily...do I even need to epoxy it?

There is grey....but they sell out all over....The tan is nasty.....try home depot or menards, or even autozone or pepboys....I could have sworn that those kits cover 500 sq ft but I could be wrong.....Adn I don't think u have to acid etch, but if u do, it's no big deal....I bought concrete acid at menards and it last forever because you mix it with water to dilute it....then you take a mop and just mop the floor.....then go over it again with water or just use a hose.....

I want to know also. Will the floor be more slippery than the concrete when wets with antifreeze or something? Is there grit in the epoxy? I just had a similar conversation with someone yesterday and am wonder some of the same questions.

The kit that I am buying come with rubber flakes that are for decoration but the coating itself will repel against oil, coolant and about anything u can throw at it.....I would also recomend sealing you cracks in the concrete with a silicone.....It will seal it, give it a clean look and it is paintable

I used an epoxy paint on mine. I didn't need to clean it with the acid because it was new concrete. The older stuff which is dirty needs to be so you have a good surface for the paint to adhere to. I had a little bit of a rougher finish to my concrete work because when it was poured it didn;t want to set up at first. Then it decided it wanted to in a hurry so it didn't get finished out like i wanted it to. As for clean up you can't beat it. Some of the shops I have been in have had the grit added in and it is a little slippery but so would the smooth finished concrete if you had oil or so on it.

if u put the apoxy down it wont be slick, and you'll be putting an acid base down before so it can pick up the apoxy...........ahhhhh.......didnt think i paid attention when kenny talked about his job..........i would tell u to have him do it cause he has all the materials, but he's just a little guy in the company, and they're expensive, ill ask him where to get it from and what to buy.

I recently did this to my garage floor and I used the Rustoleum Grey floor coating. I bought 2 kits for a 2 car garage and had a little left over that I had to toss. You use the citric acid mixed with 2 gallons of water and scrub the heck out of the floor to clean it of all the contaminents and so the coating will stick. Thats the biggest pain of the job. Then you apply it in 4 foot sections and toss little rubber chips into the painted surface so its not slippery. It has held up EXCELLENT! Here is a random pic so you can kinda see how it turns out.

looks great! I got 3 of those kits for 46/ea at Menards today. The floor is already very smooth almost polished cement which isn't even a year old, never had any oil or other lube on it, no stains, blah blah

hopefully it cleans up well with the acid stuff an the epoxy takes hold as it should. I'm just kinda concerned about the weather when I tackle this job. I have 3 days to get everything done with the floor. The instructions include a blurb about temp and humidity, but what happens if its a little cooler than they specify? I just have to wait longer for everything to cure?

I did mine like 10 years ago. My wife hates it. (grey color). About 40% of it is gone. (didn't etch it good enough me thinks)........Also, it (at least mine), is slicker'n hell when it's wet.
If I had to do it again, I would, but wife would still kick me in the junk.

(ain't nuthin' like a pimped out garage, ya know)............(just need a microwave and little fridge out there......maybe a small tv and a nice chair, and I"d be set).....:>)

The biggest thing I am concerned with is how slippery it is. I am a clutz....sometimes :thud:

Mine isnt slippery at all......I kinda got carried away with the little rubber chips though. I tell ya it sure is hard to find things that I drop on the floor. Thats my only complaint. :thumbs_up
