Should I go back to doing it again? The last shop I worked for it felt like i was being used as an employee hard core. Got paid nothing and got to the point I hated working on cars so much that since I quit back in December I still haven't gotten much of a urge to get to working on my stuff much. As for now it feels like I wasted how much money on tools, 4 years of school, training outside of school, and my ase certs.

I know Steve is just going to suggest I shoot myself if before I do go back to it.

Join the club of, "I hate my job." I don't know many people that actually like what they do regardless of their occupation. But, if your good at working on cars and can get paid good money for it, then why not?

It's not so much that I hate it. Just seems like the last few places I have gotten no where giving it my all. The last one the pay was extremly poor. I wasn't going to make $20K a year working there. I had to keep my part time job at night so I actually had a decent income. I made more with the part time night job a year then I did there. Which is why I left the field for awhile like this.

Jamie, you literally made me spit pop all over my monitor.........thanks.....
(was a good giggle tho).
In all seriousness, if you LIKE, (no make that LOVE), diagnosing/repairing vehicles, you gotta find a place that appreciates you, and your work, your love of the work, your concienctious (sp), care for your work, etc. etc.
I've worked at 4 different dealerships in my loooooooooooong career. Every one has had their positives, (well, some anyway), and ALL of them had major negatives.
Just being in this business alone is a pain. Cold/wet/slop/crap dripping in every orifice in the winter. HOtter'n hell, burning /sweating/stinking in the summer. Bitchy customers that (usually), don't have a friggin' clue, parts people that DO NOT have a friggin' clue. Service managers and service writers that ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HAVE A CLUE, and try to re-diagnose/second guess your diagnosis's, I could go on, and on, and on.
Seriously. I hope that you do find some place that treats you like a human being, and appreciates you MORE than just a slap on the ass, but monetarily as well.
I"m just NOW, (after being at this dealership for 5+ years), getting close to what I was making 5+ years ago at the bigger dealership................(don't get me started on THAT rant)...........
ON ANOTHER NOTE........ You're young. YOu're bright. (well, you were bright enough to give dealerships a big kiss off a while back anyway).....:>)
Anyway, again, if there's something ELSE you'd like to do/try............GO FOR IT.
Hell, I wish I was young enough to start over/try something else. (maybe gynecology).......naw...........I"m sure even THEY get tired of looking at the poon now and then..........(no offense, ladies, just MY sick humor)...........
Think long and hard, young Skywalker, before you pick up the light sabre and attempt to slay the dealerships again................(don't know where that came from),,,,,,,whatever..........

Dang, Steve !!!!!! If I don't know better (& I'm shure I don't) I'd say you sound a little burnt out @ Dealerships. A job is a job. If it's really bad then it's time to move on. I think what happens is some people like the job, just not all the BS that sometimes goes with the job. I don't think I'm different from anyone else when I say some days it great & other days it just plain _____!!! So if I may be so Bold, I take it the Dealer your @ ain't so Great ????

You may be 'so bold'. We have a bunch of the stupidest, (read absolute moronic), service writers, absolute worthless parts people, and what's even worse is no matter how much is 'brought to managements attention', no one gives a rats ass. Just one big swirley going on here. In all honesty, ALL the techs are looking for different work. Just a matter of time.
No dealership is perfect, but at least SOME care about their technicians/people.
(love to find one).

ANd, yes, LOVE the work, HATE the people/bullshit/politics.

I would really love to have an engineering job or so for one of the manufactuers of the parts, or so. If I knew for sure if I could go back to school for a couple of years to get what I need for schooling instead of a full blown 4 year course I would.I think I may head down to Wayzata and put an application in at Sears Imports and Lexus of Wayzata. Maybe call Hal Shocks and see what they may have for possible positions that someone with a back ground as a mechanic can get into.

Wish you all the luck in the world, man.
Just remember..............YOU know what you left behind. YOU know what you've got to look forward to if you return. (unless you luck out and find a dealership that cares about its people). (far and few I think).

Don't sell yourself short. Even if you go part time work and school part time, again, you're young. You can change. (if you want to).

Good luck.

Ouch, Ouch, Ouch !!!!! If it makes you feel any better, makes where I work sound a zillion times better than what your dealing with.
