I fired the car up tonight with the new goodies. Runs and revs good and idles nice and choppy at 1100rpm :D However, with the good comes the bad. I can only get about 3/4 or less throttle out of it wide open. I figured I would use an 85 Mustang (carbureted) throttle cable like everyone says to use. WRONG! Not enough travel. I'm thinking I will have to go with a Lokar cable. What is everyone else running with there carbureted Mustangs? Or is everyone laughing at me because I am the only dumb guy who converted from EFI to carb?

Run a string from throttle to the dash. ;)

So bring this bad boy down to GLD tomorrow. You gonna be there? I have to run the tower... And harrass Puff 'n Fluff. :D

The string trick is tempting :D

I won't make it tomorrow. I'll be buttoning up the car tomorrow so I can get it to the dyno and then do some test and tune. I am putting the fogger back on because 1bad442 has a small block Monte Carlo that I have to teach a lesson to at the August RSD. I have a bunch of little stuff to do that will probably take me into the better part of next week with the limited time I have to work on it right now. I can't wait to drive it. I think now it has enough sack to make me soil my drawers. If so, I'll post a picture of the soiled drawers so everyone can enjoy the excitement with me. :p

If you have enough grunt to cover Puff N Fluff you'll become one of my heros like Mark. :)

I don't think I'll have that much grunt. But Brian hates Fords so much, he told me he would let me spray and he'll run on horsepower. I'll surely kill him then. I think he even offered to spot me out. He honestly thinks that Fords can't be fast. Me and him go round and round about this on a daily basis. He'll learn sooner or later.......

Well Well Well, that didnt take long........ I KNEW IT!!!!

I dug myself a hole with a few (vs. Chevy) races I set up for August. I need to make sure I have the field covered. I'll just have to put a blower strap around the oil pan to keep all of the parts off the track. :thud:

Can you just bend the stock bracket or slot the bracket holes for more pedal travel? The CSI bracket is nice.

Or, I think you could just cut a hole in the firewall to increase the pedal travel.

I have a CSI bracket on the car. I had to modify that to get the cable to line up with the carb. The cable itself doesn't have enough travel. The cable bottoms out before the carb is open all the way.

Guess, I'll have to time him next time @ the track with a stopwatch to get an idea !!!!!! I think that's what everyone does on RSD nights, so we have an idea how fast the cars are for setting up races. Just my $.02 :D

Are you talking about Brian (TuffEnuff)? Ask him at RSD. He is usually so pumped up he spits out what he runs all night long.

Darrell,
I use a lokar 24" cable & a CSI bracket. its hard to hook up the lokar cable to the pedal, you will have to weld a tab onto the pedal to hook up the cable end. have fun crawling under your dash about 50 times
I also have the moroso plate, that BBATCO has, it works good with a 4 cyl mustang cable on it.
Did you try the other holes on the carb, I had to use the big top hole so I could get full travel of the throttle blades. when you weld the tab onto the pedel, you can also change the ratio of how far the pedle will pull the cable when you push down the gas.

A few years back when I didn't know much, my car picked up over a 1/2 sec when I figured out that the carb isn't being opened all the way at WOT :thumbs_up

Let me know if your interested in the moroso plate & I mite still have the 4cyl cable.

When you guys find out what Tuff runs let me know.
just like when you figure out what my car can realy do :D

this is some serious stuff, when it gets to be 2gs some of the real badasses that street race for real, will start to pop up. you don't want to play with them. or even let them look your stuff over.

I agree with ya Mark !!!! There are some awesome rides that only show up for the Big Cash races. I'd watch but wouldn't want to run them. Mark how do you think NMRA SSO cars would fair in some races like this ???? :hehe:

I have a CSI bracket on the car now and I just ordered the Lokar cable. I'll get this thing to go down the track sometime this year!

I have talked to uite a few guys using the Lokar, they say attaching to the pedal is easy. No modification necessary. I actually have a guy sending me pics tomorrow of his pedal. You just use the platic bushing off the stock cable.

must be a differnt cable, because from my personnel experience it didn't work that way very good. the cable would come unhooked sometimes.

Nick,
NMRA SSO cars would wast just about any car at the RSD. I don't think they would get to many races, with a $100,000 race car. :thumbs_up

Outlaw guys run mid 7 seconds......

Not in the NMRA. High 7's on the little tires. Mid to low 7's on the "W's".....

Yup, that was my thoughts also hence the :hehe: smilie !!!!!
But if a person doesn't know about the car, could get stomped. A few years back, Mike Murrilo destroyed a Big Block Chevy street racer after hours on the street. It was while racing @ an event during the weekend. The Chevy guy couldn't believe the small block, small tired Mustang drove away from his car. Made more money in one street race than a lot of people make in a months time.
