As the title says, I have a new rearend with new 4.10 gears I am currently installing in my car. What is the proper break-in procedure for the gears??

Well what i did to break in my gears was i 3 heat cycle'd it. At first, drive the car easy around for 15-20minutes. Let it cool for an hour. Then drive it easy some more for another 20minutes, let cool for an hour, then i drove the car, still easy, for 45 minutes and let cool overnight. Plus i waited at least 100 miles before letting it rip. :burnout: LoL

yea all you need to do is take it easy for a couple hundred miles. Who does that though?? :D

Thanks guys. Thats what I figured but its going to be hard not to let her rip on the first drive..

Dan, I had a nice list of things to pick up last night to finish the install, guess what was the one thing I forgot, yup you guessed it fluid. I have to get a bottle of friction modifier too....How much fluid does the 8.8 take?? I think its 2 quarts but my memory is a little fuzzy...

It holds like 2.5qts i believe. I used Royal Purple, it already had friction modifier in it! Got it from www.karlracing.com

Eric, if you use a little less T-lock modifier, the T-lock works better !!!!

Eric sound like if you take the car back and fourth to work for a week you should have the break in pretty much set. Good luck with the install. Wish I was up there to help.

Yeah....i usually drive my stang for a hundred miles or so until i break in the gears. Then i pull the motor down, change the rods, and i'm ready to go racing. LOL! I'm just kidding guys. Put the car up on jack stands and run it for about 5 minutes to get some heat in them. As long as nothing sounds bad you should be fine. Taking it easy on them for a little while might be good for a little piece of mind but it's really not a big deal. As long as you set the backlash up right you're good to go.

I should have the rearend installed tonight. I figured I would take it easy for a couple days driving back and forth to work and that should be enough for the gears to establish a wear pattern.

Oh I forgot to mention that I remembered to put gear lube in it last night :)

hopefully the artist formerly known as Dan setup the rearend right. Actually chubby kid racing does excellent work.
