I just got back from GLD. Dudes I am in shock. These are the best racing tires I have ever tested, bar none. I didn't even have to do a burnout and look at this timeslip:

As mentioned- NO BURNOUT!!! :thud:
Didn't do one all night. These things are incredible. Period. :worshippy

Mach or NiceASP?
Greg@GLD
08-05-2004, 12:48 AM
Alex, I'd have crapped in my pants if that was with the Mach1. I think the Mach would go 12.85 or so on these tires, but the axles would never stand for a launch like that one. That was the Cobra. The best I have ever done on motor with the Cobra was 12.26- that was in cold weather, and also with a short belt, no jack/spare, and iced intake/long cooldown. This run I posted was a hotlap run with full belt, jack & spare, etc... :D

I kinda of figgered.....but if you really look at your numbers, if the Mach could take the extra pressure in the rear and turn a 1.69 - 60, those numbers could have actually belonged to it!?
BTW, what size M/Ts are they?
I was trying to make it out after reading post, but got deep into another function at the house....next time for sure.

Holy $hit! I have to get me some of those! Are these on a 17" rim i guess? I'm in shock, those are amazing shorts times, with a 3.55 gear  How'd you launch on them Greg? :thumbs_up
Greg@GLD
08-05-2004, 07:53 AM
Adam, to clarify- the Cobra HAS gone 11's on radials, but with power adders. That was an "all motor" timeslip. Figure this way- Take that 12.50 pass, and subtract about 7-8 tenths (what I pick up on an 80 shot) and that is about where I am with the juice. In fact, I had a pass last year where I smoked my clutch with the juice, let off and on the throttle three times, and still ran very well. It was encouraging. I kind of wish I had tried a bottle pass last night but I didn't want to break or pop anything before RSD tomorrow.
I have never run 11's on motor only (that's hauling ass for an SN95!) and I don't see it happening with the heads I run...

Well, no- the gears are 3.73 and the rims are 15" (I wanted the benefit of a taller sidewall, and 17" MT's are't available yet)
launch?
I started out at 2500 RPM- bogged and had a 1.92
Took it up to 3500, had a 1.78
On the pass above, I held the throttle at 5000 RPM and "squeeze-released" the clutch (didn't side step it) the car lurched forward like a launch on slicks. I did not "turn them over" even one time, as in ZERO wheelspin on any of my launches, and as I have mentioned- I drove around the waterbox and just stood on the gas for about 2 seconds to clean the pebbles and pit dust off the tires
If one of you guys with a car that is setup for a drag launch (90/10's, no swaybar, skinnies etc) gets a set of these, I KNOW you can hang the front wheels on a radial. Simply no question.

Those are awesome tires. I saw them at the NMRA and they looked awesome. I'm curious as to how they drive in rain and such because my car is my everyday driver. They also need to make them in 315/35/17 for me...or maybe this will be a good excuse to buy some 15" prostars.

Can you drive them on the street or will they were out like in 3k miles?

I heard they wear out faster than BFG drag radials. My BFG's didnt see more than about 4000-5000 miles. I've been on my Nittos for about 6000 miles and they have plenty of tread left.

$140.00 each...
If you are looking for wear, you don't buy these tires. They aren't going to last like Nittos. And a Nitto is not going to come close to hooking like these do...

They are great tires from M/T but I still say McCreary is the best street tire. Awesome traction and good in rain or street use

08-05-2004, 04:22 PM
Greg...How would you compare them to the BFG drag radials. I had a set and they hooked REALLY good...MUCH better than my current Nittos
Greg@GLD
08-05-2004, 06:20 PM
Well... over the years I have had several sets of BFG's and Nittos. The MT's are step above the BFG's. Keep this in mind also- I have gone thru BFG's REALLY fast before, part of that is because I found they worked best when heated up (like Nittos)
I have to remind everyone- Last night I cut a 1.6x 60 foot on a drag radial without doing a burnout. I think these will last longer than a set of BFG's to be honest. They don't seem to "peel" like BFG's do. Time will tell, I race a lot and so if these are going to wear out fast, we'll find out.

Thanks you guys, but I get the feeling since everyone has been asking if this was the mach1, they think the Snake is slooooow. It's actually right in line with how it should run in the "trim" it was in. I can make it go quicker than that, trust me. :D

Its not that we think the cobra is slow by any means! I myself just wouldnt of been surprised to see you post those numbers with the Mach, that car seems to just keep getting better and better. The more I hear about those the more I want one :shifter:

Mach's a great car, no question... When I got it last year, Nice Asp was neglected and almost forgotten. Now it's the opposite- SInce I've had Nice Asp back on the road, and been able to race her round and round, the Mach has seen very little road time this summer, in fact I think save for a few trips to WIR, she's only come out on Tuesdays for Wayne's.

Why Joel? You use a 8" rim right? That is the recommend rim size for the 235 and the tread width is still 8" on that rim. I think that would be enough tire to hook your car up. Especially if you can't get your hands on the 275's, some of the sizes are still hard to come by.

Nico, those tires were noticed by a LOT of people. When I was waiting my turn in the lanes, people would walk up and ask about them. One guy said "When I saw how easy you spun them when you scrubbed them off, I thought they might not hook that well, then when you launched it looked like you were shot out of a cannon!" :D
Mark my words Nico, you're gonna crap your pants the first time you hit these things.

The MT web site says 8" wide wheels, our stock wheels are 7" :thud: I thought about them too after Greg posted. They sound great however, I wonder what a pair of wheels would add to the cost.
The 235/60R15 BFG's say they fit rim sizes 6.5 - 8.5

Yep, that's why I'm thinking of getting them. I can remove the Blizzaks from a pair of my spare stockers and mount them up.
BTW I found out that the base model Accord also uses a 205/65R 15 tire so if I can get a set of 4 15" Honda wheels I could mount up Blizzaks for winter on the Accord. I have 4 in the basement that my wife used on her Mustang before she traded it. They all use the same front brake roters and the rears are the same size or smaller so no fitment problem. :thumbs_up

I lost a ton of MPH on the tall slicks, way too much diameter for my combo and a good demonstration on how gearing effects the rest of the combo. I was able to cross the traps in third with those tall slicks... :thud:
I think that 4.10's might actually improve my results a bit...

whoa I missed this thread...
That is good to know about not needing a burnout. We put a set on my buddy's Corvette. He promptly ran a new best of 12.95 n/a and 11.6 on the spray. He also started breaking drive axle u-joints every other run. Seriously, he would get a run, then shatter one, then fix it, then get one run, then shatter one... LOL, those tires straight hook. He had been running MT ET streets on it, and switched because he didn't like driving on them.
I am impressed. Heck I want some for my car for cruising!

BTW Greg, how much tire pressure are you running in them?
Greg@GLD
09-04-2004, 08:45 AM
I have found 18PSI to be about perfect- I don't turn them over at that pressure. As for street manners, they are great, MUCH better than ET Street (bias ply)
I have yet to light these up, there is simply no reason to do that!
Worth noting- A buddy of mine with the same Mach1 as me has only a K/N, h-pipe and magnaflow exhaust. He was running 12.90's with BFG Dr's. Switched to the M/T's. 12.51@109.xx :thud:

and all i can say is I was ear to ear smiles all they why home
I pulled up to a light and talk to a guy in a lightning and when we took off from the light I got on it a little in 1st from about 3k and they only spun a little and when I shifted into 2nd nothing and that was just with driving 6 mile on them   my nittos would have lit up in 1st and through 2nd without doing a burnout and being set at 28psi
I cant wwait to get back to the track and see how they will help
I only took it to the middle of 2nd cause Im not one to street race the top speed I got to was maybe 35

Since there are some "high end" racers getting 1.3 60 foots with them, it's clear they are the Real Deal.

Anyone using these with stupid amounts of spray right off the line yet? I'm curious if they'll dead hook spraying 200 off the line.....
My buddy I mentioned before is shooting 175 off the line. They hold, the drive axles don't...
