Alan Mulally, who succeeded Bill Ford last year as chief executive of Ford Motor Co., received compensation valued at $39.1 million in his four months on the job in 2006, including an $18.5 million bonus related to his signing and awards he gave up when he left his previous employer Boeing Co., according to a regulatory filing Thursday.

I agree 100%! I hate to say this but what the country needs to do is boycott companies that do this, but at the same time that punishes the hard workers.

So hey Ford Motor Company...If by chance you read this.....GET REAL!!!!!!!!!! I'll do the same job if you just pay my monthly bills! And I will probably make you guys more money, happier workers, satisfied customers and to top it off...I look better in a suit than he does!

That's right vote Jim Rice for President of Ford.

It's the company investors you should be mad at. The CEO is just doing what they pay him to do. The investors are the ones who hire people who's only job is to make them richer. I'm sure $28 Mil is chump change compared to what the investors are making. If you're not in business to make money then why bother.

STILL , why the F would you pay ONE azzhole in the company, who literally does VERY LITTLE that MUCH money for NOTHING when the company is trying to stay afloat?!!?!??!?!?!?!?! but we have to cut joe smoe's position at plant A that makes 16 dollars an hour ....MAKING THE F'N CARS.

I understand high compensation for CEOs and others who make a difference and when the company is profitable, but this is ridiculous.
Dieter Zetsche, the head of DaimlerChrysler, made $10.3 million last year, but the difference is that his company cleared cool $4.3 billion in net profit.
The US CEO compensation has always been five to ten times higher than what they pay in Europe but they still manage to make MBs, BMWs, Audis etc. Maybe it isn't the CEO compensation that makes a company tick?

Since you asked.......You have to put yourself in their shoes, AND have at least a small understanding of how the system works. Most people who want to start a business don't have the money to do it. So they go looking for investors, the people with the money. They don't care about your American dream, they care about taking the money they have and adding piles upon piles to it. If they think your idea will do that for them then your in. Problem is, you just sold your soul for your American dream. They now own you, and it's your legal responsibility to make them money, no matter the cost. If you can't they now own your American dream. They don't want to take the reins so they hire someone who's willing to take the reins and make them boat loads at the same time. They pay them a fraction of their boat loads. $28 mil might sound like boat loads to you and I but to the investors who stand to make billions it's chump change. Buildings, employees, etc. are nothing but numbers to these people. When the company isn't bringing in what they want it to, they cut the numbers. Take the tissues out of your purse and cry all you want, you'll never change the system. The folks with the cash will never see it your way and will never care because they are driven by cash and cash only. What ever it takes to add to the piles. Most people nowadays think that they have some sort of right to have a job. Guess again, no employer has to provide a job for anybody. They need people to do a job for them and when that need is met or no longer a requirement, they don't need the people. When you punch your time clock tomorrow morning, feel privileged that your employer still has a need for you because he/she doesn't owe you a damn thing.

Here is some of what is says...
Mr. Mulally's compensation included a salary of $666,667; a bonus of $18.5 million, related to his hire, and including $11 million to offset forfeited awards at his former employer; stock and option awards at cost to the company of $8,682,376; and all other compensation of $334,433. "Other" compensation included, among other things, $172,974 for use of company aircraft, $55,469 for relocation costs and temporary housing; personal use of company phone cards and cell phones; personal use of car and driver service, of company season tickets to athletic events, and of company club memberships. In addition, to "ease the burden" of Mr. Mulally moving to Dearborn, Mich. and away from his family in Seattle, the Compensation Committee recently clarified that his company-aircraft arrangement covers travel by his wife, children and guests for personal reasons without him, at his request. Mr. Mulally's nonqualified deferred compensation account held a balance of $33,229.

How can Ford justify this. They lost 12 billion last year and they somehow seem to believe that paying this one man 39mil. is going to right this ship! Toyota Motor Co. payed it's CEO approx. 1 mil. last year, this is one of the reasons they are closing in fast on GM. I cannot imagine how a Ford line worker must feel after seeing this compensation package, when they are asked to give the automaker concessions in wages and benifits. Overwelming disgust would be my feeling. This type of action has the potential to reduce the quality of Ford's product line even more. Corporate greed is going to kill Ford and many other American companies. We may all be working for the Japaneese and Chineese in a few short years due in part to our own selfish greed! I hope I'm wrong but I see nothing to indicate that real positive change is taking place in the American corporate world. :flg:

Mullaly turned Boeing around when they were in as bad if not worse shape than Ford. If he can turn Ford around and get them on track to be number 1 then $38 million is money well spent. If he doesn't well then that sucks, but in all reality CEOs of corporations on this level bing in a lot of money, because despite what you may think its not a job that just anybody can to. Think about it, would you really want some Joe Schmoe making $50k to be in control of turning around your multi billion dollar business?

Yes this sucks, but what can you do. The only thing in this world you need to worry about is yourself and don't let anyone get in your way.

A lot of people can sit back and say the things you guys are talking about, but put yourself in his shoes. Someone comes and presents yourself with that big ass check and you are just going to turn it away? I am not saying that I am one of these types of people, but it is real easy to sit there and say "This sucks, screw him and the company" I agree it does suck, but I am not going to sit around and let it get me down or stop me from having my own buisness. Just make sure you always conduct yourself with the upmost respect for yourself and others. In my mind you will go farther than anyone of these other corporate big shots.
