Well, i just picked up my car today after a SCT dyno tune done by Sutton Performance, my peak horse power is at 4900rpms, where should i shift to get the most out of it,(cut better ET's)? I wanna go to the track soon, like tomorrow :burnout: But maybe next week, or both, the car is feel really strong

Test & Tune, that's what it's all about.

how much of a drop in rpm do you get when you shift into the next gear?
I would also look at were the torque is at. you want to stay in your power band. unless the car dosn't hook, try to get moving at or around your torque peek & shift just after the hp starts to fall off. & when you shift into the next gear it should be where you are making good torque #s.
on my push rod motor,
I dump the clutch around 6400 rpm & shift at 7800 or so & my car will drop 1900-2000 rpm with each shift.

How long was your car there? I talked to them b4 and last time they said they need my car for 2 day's!! They were pretty steep in price too. How do you like the tune? My buddy got the SCT Flasher that is very cool
What numbers did you come out with?
the SCT Flasher rocks, I have it with the Racer Package.

I use 4.30 gears in case no one knew. Max rwhp is 262, rwt299. They got the car done in one day, it was pricey though, just hope it's worth it, they say with the right tires, i should get into the 12's

For me, I shift at peak HP and that seems to work best. I have tried shifting later but it just seems to make more noise and not go any faster.

So maybe i'll try shifting at 5300, does that sound too low?

DO the CHART!
Script passes, make passes, chart results. Done.
Some cars respond differently also by short-shifting 1-2. My Mach1 responds best when I shift 1-2 at 6300 and then 2-3 at 6600 and 3-4 at 6600.
Whenever I make changes, I chart shift points. Sometimes 100 or 200 RPM changes result in better ET.
Make one change at a time.
Work on each shift one at a time.

Thanx Kirk, i was thinking something like grab second at 5300 and the rest at 5500-5600 and go from there. I just hope i can grab off my two-step, should be a lot of fun :burnout:

i ran 12.5's with 4.30's in my car. cam was a .512.512 hyd, vic jr intake, 750 vac secondary carb, and some LT's. this was done with a C4 and 8" 4000 stall and 28x11.5 ET Streets. i was launching @ 2800 via footbrake and shifting @ 7100. before that i was trying everything from 6200 all the way to 7200 for shift points. just takes time at the track to see what works and doesn't.
