In light of a recent move to upgrade my speakers from factory up to something better I decided to go with pioneer speaker components. I had these Mach460 tweeter pods on my car but the sound quality always sucked, probably because I had a non 460 system that I was pumping sound into these with.

This being said, I decided to purchase some Pioneer TS-T110 Tweeters in hopes they would drop right in. :buzzer: wrong!!! Immediately after removing the 460 tweeters, I knew this was going to be a little work.

What I was replacing:

Something had to fill the space where the tweeter mounts so I used the factory speaker to make a template on some aluminum sheet (I think it was 1/16” thick, I forget):

The Pioneer tweeters I purchased came with metal mounting cups for flush mounting and I decided to use these as described in the instructions:

I then figured out where to cut the hole for the Tweeter itself using a circle template that was on the front of the box the tweeters came in. Cut it with a Dremel (that was a pain) and used them on the front to give the black tweeter surround something to grab onto. I tightened the bolt in the back of the metal cup and made sure it wasn’t going anywhere.

With this done, I put a new silicone seal between the two halves of the pod and re-installed the screws that held the original speaker together:

These tweeters came pre-wired with a frequency blocker, so all that needs to be done now is to piggy back into the factory speaker wiring and I’ll be done. Although if you’re going into speakers that will be fed handle a larger wattage than these tweeters can handle you might want to wire them differently, but considering I’m not going to go crazy with wattage, the way I will wire them will suffice.

No reviews on how they sound yet but should be an improvement now that I have speakers with a proper Ohm level for a non-Mach 460 system. I can’t wait to finish by installing the four 6x8 Pioneer 240 watt 4 way speakers I have sitting ready to go in!
