Got DSL hooked up yesterday. The gateway I was supplied with is wireless ready (Actiontec). It takes a PC card. My question is this: Is this card going to be the same as one that would get put in a laptop, or is there a specific card for the receiving end?

I think you mean "PCI" card?

Yes, that thin card with 68 pins.

You have to get a card for each computer that you wish to connect to the wireless access point. For desktops you can use an internal newtork card with a little antenna on it, or you can get USB recievers that you plug in via USB and then set a little box with an antenna up on the desk, although some USBs look almost like a little external drive stick with no added box. Take a look here: Netgear Wireless stuff (http://www.netgear.com/products/wireless/80211b.php)

It's locked and loaded now. DSL, wireless laptop, sitting in my La-z-boy and surfin' the net listening to streaming audio (hotmetal radio)
My gateway took a specific card, had to beat the bushes to get the needed info.
Now to set it up so I can access my desktop. :thud: Any place that gives a tutorial on how to do that? Win2k on the laptop and 98 on the desktop.

XP and 2K are both easy to set up for networking. I don' like XP home and their wizzard but then I work with this stuff everyday.
