I have a 90 GT that has the air bag, was wondering if there was a way to disconnect the air bag. I'm not the tallest person in the world and the car is a stick, and I'm thinking since it's not a "new" air bag, if anything were to happen I'm thinking it would hurt.
I want to eventually get a different steering column with tilt, but I haven't even begun that yet.

If you disable it, get in an accident, and the bag does not go off you can be fined for disabling a safety device.
Pull the fuse for it or remove the power source to both the sensors and the bag itself..no it won't go off. They don't have a 12 volt constant. Power is supplied to them only in the event of a crash, hense the sensor. They can not go off without at least 9V. We set them off in my structure class all the time. It's fun, take them out to the parking lot, run a couple 8 ft wires and touch them to a 9v battery. They go like 15-18 ft in the air. Once we hooked three together so they would go off at the same time. It was pretty loud.

Now I didn't know that there was a fine attatched. But Brent do you really want to be in the drivers seat of your car when the air bag goes off?? I know your male and alittle taller then me, so your seat is probably back alittle more then mine. I haven't heard anything good about these older air bags. And I'm not really sure I want to find out.
But now would the fine be attatched too if we replaced the steering column with one out of say an 87??

No I don't want my airbag to go off in either one of my cars. I have seen what they do to your face and I don't think the benefit is all that. If you have your belt on it won't matter if you have one or not. That is the way I see it.
I am not sure if you would get the fine with the other column. I am curious about that myself, cuz I have one from an 88 that I want to put in my car.
I will have to do some checking on that one.
