Well I got bumped of the top five last week. That pissed me off. I finally got my **** to hook, and regained my place  It will hopefully take much more than that to bump me next year so better get working. I hope nobody forces me to put the big pills in..... :shifter:

You have to remember its just a little one, and street driven regularly. I only race on DOT tires also. I have a nice size box in the garage that says DART on the side so I may be okay......

I had to pimp Darrell off. Good thing his car is apart or I might have to PILL UP. I am dying to see the video so i can see how the launch looked. I guess my home installed suspension is working. 1.40 with no transbrake on a DOT tire ain't to bad....

I don't post my times anywhere. I wonder if the same guy that put a license plate that said "bitch" on my truck last week is the same one that changed my info???????? I know you all want to push me back I understand. Rest assured you will have your work cut out for you. I work extremely hard to be where I am. I do 90% of the work myself including all chassis, suspension, and tuning. My chassis dyno is a nice piece of asphalt right by my house.I have always made this car a driver. I go to cruise night every week, usually take the long way home to visit some of my favorite "spots". I have aquired a "new" driver(90notch) with a lil 302 that will be my every day cruiser. So my trusty old 86 that I have owned since 93 is going to get the treatment this winter. Most have an idea, but the same most have no idea. I assure you I will be able to cruise whenever nesessary, but the hammer will drop much harder.

Thats not a problem. I was just making a point. I have seen Rich run many times car is impressive, especially for the suspension on the car. It proves simplicity can work, very cool. I really don't care too much about it though(top five) as if it were street cars that are driven frequently it would all be different and to me thats what matters. I started this thread to give Darrell **** for fun thats all. Trust me I have only a little street car so I can't and don't expect to be king. I will leave that for the race cars.......

Ram air is N/A.
I disagree. It is force induction, but not to the extreme a sc or turbo does it.
Greg@GLD
09-28-2004, 09:13 PM
Well, no, not really. Ram Air does not raise manifold pressure, so it really is not "forced induction" per se. The air must still be drawn into the cylinders via the downward motion of the pistons on the intake stroke
Greg@GLD
09-28-2004, 10:25 PM
Well yes, that's what I'm saying, it's not forced induction, you would not see anything on a boost guage with ram air.
upngo50
09-28-2004, 10:59 PM
Your still forcing more air in than the engine would otherwise draw in so I have a hard time view it as a completely n/a engine. It is a form of induction when removed reduces the performance of the car much like a sc.
In stock car racing you cannot run a ram air unit unless it came factory on the car because it is not a natural form of induction. Your using forward motion of the car to pack more air in just like a sc pack more air in via the impeller, but not enough to show excess pressure in the form of boost on a gauge.

what about a no ram air car with a 40 mph headwind? what would that be?

IMO, Ram Air is N/A

I have to respectfully disagree. Think this thru please dude-
1. The amount of moving air (CFM) needed to cause positive pressure to build up behind the intake valves is tremendous, you are not going to be able to create that with a ram air system, no way.
2. Since you use the prospect of getting more air into the motor as a classification for "forced induction" then one could argue that a bigger air filter, throttle body, intake or higher lift cam all do the same things; they make it so more air is drawn into the open intake valves as the piston is on the downstroke.
The defining factor is the manifold absolute pressure. if we took any "N/A" combo and connected a boost guage like I have (the kind that reads negative pressure as well as positive) and we added a ram air system, even at speeds approching 100 MPH or more I do not believe that the boost guage would come close to registering anyting but a vaccum, because the CFM required to overcome the amount of air being naturally drawn into the motor
is tremendous. Why do you think a supercharger or turbo impeller spins in the tens of thousands of RPM versus the speed of the crank? because there is a need to move CFM in such a volume as to overcome the 14.7PSI of the atmosphere.and the vaccum created by the downstroke of the piston.
The primary benefit of "ram air" is to bring cooler, unheated air from outside the engine compartment into the intake system. In recent years, "Ram Air" has been changed to "Cold Air" or "Fresh air"
No flames bro, just a good debate here. :thumbs_up

Hey guys, just thought I'd drop in for a bit. Greg told me that BBATCO would be P'd off that I bumped him. Sounds like he's got big plans for the winter though!!!
I too have done EVERY BIT of work and fabrication on my car ( all but the trans ) and believe it or not alot of the parts on it are used/second hand stuff. I'd love to have all the latest/greatest new parts but sometimes I can barely afford to this with used parts.
I do appreciate the fact that BBATCO ( I think it was you anyway? ) mentioned how well my car works for how simple the rear suspension is. I haven't upgraded to a better set-up mostly due to the fact that I seem to find something else to spend my budgeted $$$ on, and also that I figured out how to make what I have work pretty well - so why mess with it??.
I'l be at the track a few more times this year, mostly to test some radials, before I tear the car apart for winter. The engine is waaaayy overdue for a freshening/rebuild, and I'm finally going to ditch the HYDRAULIC roller and go with a solid roller cam. among other things.
I was ready to head up to the track this afternoon when it started pouring. I might go up tomorrow, but I'll definitely see you guys on sunday to whip on the bowtie boys!!!

I was suprised to see the ssm bars on your car. I used them for years and they worked great, but when I started to get faster the stopped working. I do run Dot tires(hoosier qtp's) so that may have been part of it. My car always unloaded right after launch causing tire spin after the initial hook. I tried everything. I used the same springs and air bag as you also. I have since went with a Anti roll, and strait lower bars and got the hook back and then some.
I truly love to see people going fast when they do it them selfs, at least as much as they are able. It has to be good feeling to go that fast with a 8.2 deck on that suspension, in a car that you built.......
RICH JELINEK
10-02-2004, 06:54 PM
Yeah, it does feel good!!! Thanks for the compliment.
As far as my rear susp. goes - I'll have the BFG drag radials on for tomorrow, so I'm going to find out how they'll work with my simple set-up. If I can get it to the 330' mark the rest should go okay, we'll see. That's all I'm really going to do the rest of this year is play around and try out a few different things with the car so I'm not totally lost when next season starts.
See ya up there. :thumbs_up
