the gears will be fine use you want to change the ratio and that be the best time.
otherwise all you need to replace is the diff. and axles

By "race spline" one assumes you mean a 31-spline posi unit or differential, so along with that you need matching 31 spline axles. "Splines" are the grooves cut into the ends of the axles. The axles have to match the differential and vice-versa. You can't use 28-spline axles on a 31 spine diff, so you need to get yourself a set of 31 spine axles. :D
As Ghost 4.6 mentioned, the gears are interchangeable...

I don't think the "race" axles have the ability to work with a C-Clip type diff. They are used with a spool.

indeed...elims or 9" ends are the way to go

is a race axle ok for the street???? I know that a race gear will not last on the street, because its softer & can take the shock better than a street gear.....
I would also get the used axles magnafluxed to check for cracks, my last set of axles were cracked when they checked them, but you couldn't see the cracks by eye. they were also twisted a little thats why I had them checked.
now I have some 35 spline axles from Mark Williams. :thumbs_up

race axles are fine for the street as long as c-clip elims and used and have been install by someone who knows how to keep them from leaking
in mosers case they use a stronger alloy in there race axles then they do in the street axles
I run a the moser 33 spline race axles and 33 spline spool and c-clip elims on the street
it is major overkill for my combo right now but I am looking into the future I dont feel like spending the money on something 2 or 3 times

they're more brittle as well, hence prone to cracking when used for say some hard cornering with a spool I guess

I know a few guys that have run this setup in a d/d for over 2-1/2 years and over 40k miles and only had 1 c-clip elim fail and not a single axle that includes making over 300 passes at the strip running 60' in the high 1.5 and low 1.6 range

yeah i wouldn't sweat it, the likelyhood of killing a decent axle is much smaller than doing the same with stock equip

I know of bill p and have talked to him a few times but I dont really know him
just like ken b(where do you think I bought my setup) I have talked to him a couple of times more for my sct chip then anything
but the people I was refering to was my dads best friend wheeler and wheeler had a d/d 90 mustang lx that ran low 11s with 1.5 60' times and he drove everyday(just not in the winter) thats where I got my first chance to drive a car with a spool in it
and a guy dave from the area I used to live in before moving to wi. he had a 87 gt that was spooled and ran c-clips with no problems(before the motor blew and he sold the car and got a honda)
