Hey guys, I have a 00 GT and I was wondering if any of you modular guys have put cams in your cars yet? This is one mod I really want to do. Im not a mechanic so this would be my first time going into an engine and Im curious if I would be able to do this myself. I know Anderson Ford sells a cam tool so that you dont have to remove the timing cover. If any of you have done this details of the best way to go about it would be greatly appreciated.

I want some cams too, but i'm a little intimidated because of all the piston to valve contact problems i hear if installed incorrectly. The Anderson Cam tool works on the Romeo engines, 2001 1/2 - 2004. The 99-00 have pressed on cam spockets so you still will have to remove the timing cover and pullies to remove the cams/spockets. If you go with a stage 2 or 3 you will need to change the valve springs (comp cams springs). But even if you go with a stage 1 and you have high mileage, you should still change them, they cost $190. I would look into VT Engines or Comp Cams. It doesn't seem impossible of a job of what i read, the only time consuming part is changing the valve springs. They say to fill the cylinder with compressed air so the valve won't drop in while changing the springs.

I think if you are at all mechanical that you can handle this job.... Mine were done (I was watching/helping) with the front cover off, so I can't help you with how the anderson tool works...

I was most likely going to go with the comp cams and springs just not sure which ones. Where did you have yours done NitrousEdge? I cant imagine taking that cover off while the motor is still in the car.

I did the headswap in the car - taking the front cover off isn't bad at all....

I have been working with a shop out in NC, and mine (Crower customs) were installed and tuned out there. I didn't need new valve springs because mine (4v) are relatively low lift....I have changed valve spring in the car before and it wasn't all that bad, but it is a PITA.

I dont know if they got them sorted out but comp cams was having some problems with there cams being out of spec

I to want cams but now that my buddys shop closed for good I wont have anywhere to do it and I dont think my apartments would like me out there for 12 hrs doing cams in the parking lot

I'd be hesistant to do the install myself. Don't you have to shim the lash and all that stuff or you will have a noisy drivetrain and possibly PTV contact??

That is with a regrind cam
you should not have to do it with a billit(sp) cam like VT or the new line of Comp Cams(well not that new)

I plan on getting custom VT cams next summer and have no worries about doing them. Of course Eric is going to drag his a** over and help me with them too.
