Hello all,
I have been in the process of moving ( to central CA ) and all the associated crap that goes with that. However, this Sunday I found myself with some spare time, so I decided to wax my car. I pride myself with having a clean car most of the time, I wash at least twice a week at a touchless carwash, and wax once a month.
I tried 2 products I have never used in the past, but have heard good things about. The result is nothing short of spectactular.
Mothers Gold California Clay Bar: This simple little lump of clay, when used with the "instant detailer" absolutely cleans the paint. It strips the old wax off, removes spots and small scratches, and any contaminents that may have made their way into your paint. Each time I went over a fresh area of paint, I was rewarded with a wealth of disguisting dirt, and a dazzeling freshly painted look. I cannot convey just how filthy the car really was, even though I endeavored to clean it constantly.
Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax: For those of you not afraid to spend $16 on a car wax, you will be shocked at the value. Any small scratches not cleaned up by the clay bar are filled with this amazing wax. It is easily the easiest wax I've ever used, You cannot go wrong with it. I applied wax to the entire passenger door and the passenger quarter panel and just as I was going to buff it off, my landlord showed up. I chatted with him ( mostly about a black widow spider I found in the garage ) for like half an hour. Then, when he leaves, I look over at the car and groan, thinking I'm going to have to chip the wax off the car with a brick or something. To my delight, it came off as easily as it went on. When I finished waxing, I stood back and admired my work, but was disappointed at the lower half of the car, it looked dirty to me. I came to realize that the "dirt" was actually the reflection of the garage floor on the bottom half of the car. This is a 10 year old Illinois-Wisconsin car with original paint that has endured several winters as a daily driver! I would enter this car in a show, it looks that good.
Conclusion: These 2 products have won the "Jeff Stewart Seal of Approval" by rendering my 95 GT from a good looking car, to a better than showroom car. The car is eye-candy from every angle.
