View Full Version : Best day ever at GLD

Things went much better today at GLD then last time out. :D

The sun was out bright and it warmed up the track. I also ran the car with a 1/2 tank of gas, thinking it might help weight transfer. Plus last Sunday I drove the car around Milwaukee for 4 hours up and down city streets trying to get that grabby SPEC clutch to break in a little more.

Today I got EVERYTHING back- My reaction times, my launches, and best of all my ET. I staggered the rear shocks, setting the passenger side to 1 and the driver side to 8. Did a good, smoky burnout, and let it fly. One problem. It HOOKED! So much so that I had a tremendous bog off the line but still went 11.80 (1.98)
So next time around, I figured since it seems to be hooking I might as well let it rip, so I launched at 3500 RPM. There was mild wheelspin but it still felt great. Held tight on the 1-2 powershift too!
When my G-Tech displayed 11.56, I though "NO WAY, that can't be right..."

It was.

Later in the day, I lined up with a guy I know from Milwaukee who still has a grudge to settle because back a few years ago I put the hurt on his G/N. Today he had his Mustang with him, he wanted revenge. :hehe:
It's got a DSS308, TFS heads, and a 150 shot (plus weighs in the high 2900's)
I put a holeshot on this dude for the ages. .001

Got videos thanks to my kid Mikey, he did a great job getting my best ever and the second race.

11.56 Video (http://www.videohost.org/uph/upl/UP81144.wmv)

11.69 Video (http://www.videohost.org/uph/upl/UP30441.wmv)

What a GREAT day it was, the weather was awesome, ran a new best ever and was able to drive it home afterwards. Might just put her away now and drive the Mach1 the rest of the way. 11.5x was what I reasonably expected to get out of this thing. Did it with a 1.700 60 foot, so there's a ways to go yet, but this is a nice result for that 60 foot time.

Only about 75 cars today too, you could make as many runs as you wanted.
Markstang was there and a few guys from my Mach1 site, and some dudes from The Highway that don't come on the web. Good times, no doubt.

He did a nice job, no doubt!
I think I had more fun on the second run, I had been redlighting a LOT since I got that Clutch, but I'm starting to get used to it now. I also had a .011, 017 and .023 (made like 12 passes today!)

The second run looked like a good race, both did actually, but the grudge match and leaving somebody at the light has got to feel pretty good! :shifter:

The first race, that's BOOST from MWHP. He's actually faster than me, he ran into a little problem downtrack so I held him off. He's run 11.30 with that car at 123.
The second guy is cool, we have a friendly banter going on. Him and his buddy were very gracious and they gave me props for the holeshot. Look at our 8th mile times- Nitrous cars usually have strong 8th mile times. The blower was too much for him downtrack to overcome though. We also had a nice talk about being able to run like that all day when ya got boost. (we had to wait to race because he wanted his bottle to get hotter)

Thanks Mark. I know to you 10-second guys this is a yawner but it's new territory to me. :D

Danno, it's better. Might be a combination of me getting used to the feel of it plus it's getting broken in better. It still is like an on-off switch but I think I am developing a better feel for it now. I can drive it on the street pretty smooth, it just takes a little more finesse with the pedal...

I should show you a time slip when I get 1.7 60fts!!! That is a CRAZY E.T. with that kind of 60ft!

That's just what I was thinking looking at the slip. A couple of tenths on the 60' and around .5 second on the big end. You've definetly got the MPH Greg!
:burnout:

As I said before,

You just need seat time with Nice Asp. It's a whole new combo to drive.

but you are a quick learner as we can see from today.

Thanks Eric... I can see now where I should be at with all things working. I picked up .3 in ET going from a 1.9 to a 1.7 (11.8 to 11.5) 1.7 still is very sucky but I'll take it. It looks like this is a 11.3-11.2 car with a little better driving. I also am not powershifting 2-3 or 3-4.

I've raced like 5 cars now with the same or slightly lower MPH, all were better equipped for drag racing, all ran between 11.00 and 11.30. But mine's the only one that drives to and from the track... :hehe:

Bob, thank you again for your help in getting my car to run right. I have made nearly 50 passes on your pump gas tune and have had ZERO problems as far as head gaskets or detonation. I have hot-lapped it at least a dozen times (yesterday I ran it in circles like I was on a roundyround track!) The car's an animal and we both know there's a LOT more potential there. I just don't have the balls to push it. :D

Awesome Greg !!
Glad to see that you figured your "issue" out. I know how frustrating it can be. I felt bad for you when I seen you on that COLD Saturday 2 weeks back. I am just happy for you that you figured it out and is now going in the right direction.
That nitrous car needs some help. Those numbers don't look right to me for being on a 150 shot. Oh well, that's his problem.....

By the way, nice reaction time :thumbs_up and you know I am into that also.

I am not sure if I am going to be able to make it this weekend. It all depends on the weather. I don't like being cold.
If I do make it I won't have the car there. All packed up for the winter
