Ok gang. I'm off and running with a new project. I am attempting to build a triple purpose car, and I will need to do some upgrades to get it where it needs to be performance-wise.
Please keep in mind that this car is going to be put together on a VERY tight budget, so I am looking for good cost saving tips on the upgrades.
I would like to get everyone's input on what to do or use for converting to rear to disc brakes. I have been doing some research, and it looks like the best "junk-yard" parts are from the Lincoln LSC's. Has anyone here done this before? Also, another idea I found was to use SN95 rears. Again, any input?
Thanks. :shifter:
Check out the newer crown vics and maybe explorers for their rear brake assemblies.

Are they a direct bolt on?
That I can't tell you. They use 7.5 and 8.8 rears, i'm throwing out some ideas.

That's cool. I am just looking into all possibilities before I decide. :thumbs_up

Are you looking to keep the stock track width?

Not necessarily. But I don't want to have to add fender flares either.

The turbo coupe rear ends work real well. Pretty easy swap. Plus you get 3.73s.

How big of brakes do you want? How many lug wheels are you planning to run?
Option 1- Upgrade stock brake pads with a nice set of Hawks or something of that caliber, Replace stock calipers with SVO 73mm. Replace rubber caliper bushings with stainless steel ones. Upgrade to better hoses.
Convert rear to T-bird Turbo Coupe rear disc brakes or lincoln mark IIV. ( depends on lug pattern at this point.) Buy a nice set of slotted or cross drilled rotors. Master cylinder from an SVO or 94-95 Gt and 3-2 port conversion ( you can do this conversion without buying the kit, if you know how to correctly double flare brake lines. If you like send me the lines and I can flare and bend it for you.) and last but not least gut the stock combination valve, and buy an aftermarket proportioning valve.
Option 2- (5 lug only) 98 cobra front calipers, rotors and hoses. use any 94-96 front spindle (i.e. V-6, GT....) 94-95 Gt Master Cylinder. 3-2 port conversion for the combination metering valve (gut the stock combination valve here too). Rears you will need two driver side ranger axles (to keep stock track width) Rear Cobra Caliper brackets ( I got mine from North Race Cars-awesome company) rear cobra loaded calipers from (disc brakes r us, or you can buy them special order through some parts houses) rear cobra rotors and hoses, and don't forget to add in a proportioning valve.
Obviously option 1 is going to be more economical- but you need to decide what kind of stopping power you are going to need and how often you will be using the brakes for that application.
I also have a set of Turbo Coupe rear caliper brackets and if you are in need of them, PM me.
