I am looking for a rear firewall for a hatch back. I would like to just buy one, but if I have to I will make one.
I am going to take out the rear seat, so I just need something to finish it off, and butt up to the hatch.
Thanks!!

I put a Wolfe one in my car this time last year. I bought it at 20% off just like they are offering now and it fit great.

Thanks guys!!
I will call them tomarrow, it would be cool if it works on a 86.

I made my own. Started with cardboard templates. Whittled them down to near perfection, then brought the templates to a buddie of mine that does metal. Made them (3 piece), out of 1/8 aluminum. Made braces for the rear, (attaches to roll bar), and fastened them in place with rivets. Sealed it all up with caulk, and carpeted the interior up to them. Airtight enough, you could fart in the back, and not smell it in the front................or is that the other way around.????????

I put one in my 86 from wolfe rececraft this summer. When you call to order it tell them its for an 86 and they will leave some extra metal so you can trim it to fit the back plastic of your 86 (they just make them to fit the 87-93 back plastic, not the 79-86).. over all I am very pleased with mine....
Bringing this old post back. ;)
I'm wondering if any of you have some pics on how it looks?
I ordered the Wolfe piece, but haven't gotten it yet and just wanted to see how it fits. The pic on their website is kind of small.

just remember the wolfe piece goes to the plastic... is this really what you want if you have a fire start back near your fuel cell? Most shops will go all the way to the wheel wells etc... just something to ponder as this is your life we are talking about..
just remember the wolfe piece goes to the plastic... is this really what you want if you have a fire start back near your fuel cell? Most shops will go all the way to the wheel wells etc... just something to ponder as this is your life we are talking about..That is exactly why I thought about building a box around the cell which I still might do too. I can't believe the ones that go to the plastic are even legal. I don't ever race in any events, but welded and sealed up all the holes in the front firewall for safety sake and only have one hole with everything running through it and firecaulk all around it which I guess should be legal/safe from what I've read on hardcore50? I wanted the rear firewall for right now as it will cover up the back which looks kind of stripped with no seats or carpet.
They had the option of ordering it with the plastic panels installed, and without.
I ordered the one that goes all the way to the sheet metal and will just cut the plastic panels and leave everything behind there out, but I still wonder about the area on the side that still has the open air space between the front and back of where the firewall would be. I was thinking about welding up the holes on the side in the back. But then again building a box to go around the cell would probably be just as easy and safer since there is still the edge that meets the hatch that can't be caulked.
This is why I'd like to see what people are doing with hatchback cars.
Is the box around the cell the only completely right/safe way to do it?
The impression I get from a lot of people is that they just want to do the minimum required so that the track will let them run. :thud: I'd like to be as safe as possible too since I mostly will be driving this car around on the street and have to worry about other drivers.

we made our's as close to the side sheetmetal as possible... i cut the interior trim and spent ALOT of timing making sure the contour fit the rear window... i would send you some pics, but the car is disassembled
I got the firewall in the mail today, but didn't fit it in the car as I'm sick and it's cold out. It looks nice with the design stamped in 3 places, the protective film was left on the interior side, there weren't any sharp edges anywhere, the holes were drilled, and it came with bolts, brackets, and rivits which I thought was nice. As long as it fits closely to the car I would say it was worth the money. :thumbs_up
