Just curious what is all involved in changing out a cam with the motor still installed in car. I have a general idea, just looking for other tips on installing a new cam. I read somewhere that the valves and lifters need to be removed, is this true? Anyone that has done this your sharing of knowledge will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dave
valves can stay in the heads, but lifters and pushrods have to come out.
obviously the intake has to come off
water pump and timing cover
timing chain
might have to take radiator out depending on the car
i thread a long bolt into the cam to help get it out.

on a 302 block I don't think you can get the lifters out of the block with the heads on the motor. you can come up with something to hold the lifters up when you swap cams....
what year & size motor are we talking about for this cam change.

Anderson Motorsports makes a tool that holds the lifters up(magnets) so you can pull the cam with out pulling the intake. It might be something worth looking at.

How does that work with the lower intake on yet?

Goes through the holes where the pushrods are (were).

Yep and they are only $64.00 So you have to figure it saves the price of intake gaskets( about $20-25/ set) I think that is a great deal. I might have to invest in some.
