Maybe someone out there has a suggestion on what the problem might be. My "second" vehicle is a 1996 F150 4X4 with the 4.9 six and a 5 speed. I bought the truck brand new and currently have 142,000 miles on it and this is the first problem I have had with the engine. When I drive it, and shift, the rpm's will stay where they are at, and even slightly rise for a few seconds then drop down to normal. For example, I shift from second to third at 2000rpm, the rpm's will remain there and even go up a few hundred when I let off the throttle and push in the clutch, if I coast with the clutch in and foot off the throttle, in about 3 seconds they drop down to where they should be. It only seems to do this above 1500rpm, below that everything runs normal. The truck runs and idles like new, I checked everything to make sure nothing was binding, and lubricated what I could. I used a code reader and it spit out code P0122: Throttle/Pedal Position sensor A circuit low Input. I replaced the TPS and cleared the codes but it does the same thing and the trouble code reappears. I checked for vacuum leaks, intake leaks, I checked the fuel pressure and also replaced the IAC valve. My next step is to remove the throttle body, clean it really good (supposedly has a special coating on it and you are not supposed to clean it, but I don't care anymore), and replace the gasket. I'm running out of ideas. Anyone have any suggestions?
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

Wayne,

It runs pretty good, does not hesitate or jerk. It's not a huge problem, but one that's bugging me to no end, and I can't stand taking it in to a dealer, that will just frustrate me even more. I did see a new 2004 F250 with a clearance sticker on it at a dealership in Thiensville......
