I'm building an '87 hatch into a track car basically to just go out and have some fun in but I also want to do it right the first time. The car will be used 80% for autocross and road racing/touring. The other 20% will be straight line just for fun.

What I'm using for brakes is the same thing Saleen did - SVO. 73mm front calipers, 54mm rears. The car also has slotted rotors front and rear. I don't want to spend the big bucks on the aftermarket stuff at this time.

What brake pads do you recommend I try? I have a set of racing pads (Hawk I believe) on the front of my '89 Saleen, and they seem to work real well at Road America. What have y'all used? What's the best for the money?

TIA for your responses.

Hawks are good, low dust pads. Or just some Napa ceramic ones are decent.

Performance Friction are great ones too. AutoZone carries them

I use the Hawk HP plus pads on the front and rear of the Cobra, but I recently took them off of the front because they were way too noisy, they squeaked something fierce. Great pads for autocrossing, but way too noisy for every day driving. I'm looking at others, but not sure what to try next, thinking about trying the SBC pads. I tried just about everything on my 91 LX Fritz, and it had the same exact setup as yours, 73mm front calipers and 54mm rears. The final all around setup that I kept on, mainly for autocrossing was Hawk HP plus pads on the front, and Porterfield rear pads. Whenever I went to RA or Blackhawk, I would change the fronts to Hawk black pads and those things were nasty. I would put a new set of rotors on the front for the weekend and by the end of the weekend they were shot. I would also get them glowing red in about 3 of the corners....the main thing up at RA was keeping them cool with brake ducts. Don't forget about braided SS lines and really good brake fluid.
