Decided I'd take a ride down to GLD, figuring it probably won't be that busy.
WRONG.
Holy chit! I don't think I have ever seen it that busy on a "non event" night. I am pretty sure there were over 400 cars there. I knew there would be "trouble" when I got there at like 7:30 and there was a long line waiting to get in. Then I get into the grounds and the place was packed solid. The staging lanes had cars 4-rows deep all the way back to the red barn. :thud:
I waited in line rather than just go thru short staging (I think that would piss me off if I was waiting to race and some track employee just goes round and round on a busy night). I could tell it was going to be a challenge to get a good run. There were 100's of hondas and Acuras and kids who looked like they have never been to GLD before, and the crew working was mostly new people. I watched in frustration as the waterbox dude was not stopping people from just driving right thru the water. Almost every car in front of me drove thru the water and dragged water right up to the line. I went to make my first run and the track was like a skating rink. There was dew on all the cars, you could write your name on the roof of your car.
Needless to say it was a total waste of time, I just aborted the run and drove right out the gate.
Cruised the long way up to Highway 100, and it was packed too. Hung out at Oscar's with Andy (BOSS LX), Sam & Tina, Mark, Collin, Yoosef, Josh, Wayne, (not Moels, Wayne who built Sam's motor) Brad & his gal, Becky, and a bunch of other people I know from the web. (don't mean to forget anyone, I am terrible with names!) Mark (SMOKD U) put a nice silver MMA sticker on his rear window. It matches his silver wing. :thumbs_up
We were supposed to get to see Mark go against some Honda that was trailered thru the lot at Oscars, but that turned out to be so much BS. (Draw your own conclusions about what "go against" means)
That dude with the "ID WINN" Camaro kept driving by and revving at us, so I called him on his cell and told him we wanted him to come in the lot and chat with us. :hehe:
"I have my wife with me and my check engine light is on"
Uh huh... Suuuuuuuuure.
I told him that I expect him to show up at GLD when I have Nice Asp ready to race and he said he was chasing gremlins and wasn't sure when he'd be ready. My guess is that he did like I did about his car and he asked around about me and my Cobra and he probably didn't like what he heard about how the guy with the Cobra drives his car at GLD. :D :D (what can I say???)
Some rather attractive young girl locked her keys in her car and several people tried to use a slimjim to get her keys out. She ended up having to call a lockout service. (hey is this good stuff or what?)
Some kid with a Gran Prix that parked next to my Mach1 made a big production out of setting his alarm in front of us, so for shits and giggles I was kinda hassling him- "Dude, goods thing you got that killer alrm system, because those green neon lights you got under that car make me want it!"
So he says "Yea, I know, I think you want to steal my car!"
He left his sunroof open and I told him I was gonna jump in thru the open roof and drive off with the prized GP! I said those neons are just too cool!
Then he got kinda serious and looked kinda disapointed and says "Hey man, are you hating on my ****?" I told him to chill out, that I'm just a wiseass and it's all good. Then he and his buddy asked if the Mach was mine, and they turned out to be pretty good kids.
Cops came thru around 11:30 so I decided to split. Was followed by a pack of ricers all the way to Silver Spring. Looks like they have a hangout on Hightway 100 and Silver Spring, behind the big Mobil Station, by the Dennys.
They waved me over to the lot so I parked there for awhile, they were actually pretty cool and asked a lot of questions about the Mach1.
We're all car nuts, that's what it's about. Sometimes you think all these fart-piped hondas are driven by disrespectful punks, not true.
Anyway, figured I'd post something to read about here in the Wisconsin forum.
