View Full Version : My Friday night...

Decided I'd take a ride down to GLD, figuring it probably won't be that busy.

WRONG.

Holy chit! I don't think I have ever seen it that busy on a "non event" night. I am pretty sure there were over 400 cars there. I knew there would be "trouble" when I got there at like 7:30 and there was a long line waiting to get in. Then I get into the grounds and the place was packed solid. The staging lanes had cars 4-rows deep all the way back to the red barn. :thud:
I waited in line rather than just go thru short staging (I think that would piss me off if I was waiting to race and some track employee just goes round and round on a busy night). I could tell it was going to be a challenge to get a good run. There were 100's of hondas and Acuras and kids who looked like they have never been to GLD before, and the crew working was mostly new people. I watched in frustration as the waterbox dude was not stopping people from just driving right thru the water. Almost every car in front of me drove thru the water and dragged water right up to the line. I went to make my first run and the track was like a skating rink. There was dew on all the cars, you could write your name on the roof of your car.
Needless to say it was a total waste of time, I just aborted the run and drove right out the gate.

Cruised the long way up to Highway 100, and it was packed too. Hung out at Oscar's with Andy (BOSS LX), Sam & Tina, Mark, Collin, Yoosef, Josh, Wayne, (not Moels, Wayne who built Sam's motor) Brad & his gal, Becky, and a bunch of other people I know from the web. (don't mean to forget anyone, I am terrible with names!) Mark (SMOKD U) put a nice silver MMA sticker on his rear window. It matches his silver wing. :thumbs_up

We were supposed to get to see Mark go against some Honda that was trailered thru the lot at Oscars, but that turned out to be so much BS. (Draw your own conclusions about what "go against" means)

That dude with the "ID WINN" Camaro kept driving by and revving at us, so I called him on his cell and told him we wanted him to come in the lot and chat with us. :hehe:

"I have my wife with me and my check engine light is on"

Uh huh... Suuuuuuuuure.

I told him that I expect him to show up at GLD when I have Nice Asp ready to race and he said he was chasing gremlins and wasn't sure when he'd be ready. My guess is that he did like I did about his car and he asked around about me and my Cobra and he probably didn't like what he heard about how the guy with the Cobra drives his car at GLD. :D :D (what can I say???)

Some rather attractive young girl locked her keys in her car and several people tried to use a slimjim to get her keys out. She ended up having to call a lockout service. (hey is this good stuff or what?)

Some kid with a Gran Prix that parked next to my Mach1 made a big production out of setting his alarm in front of us, so for shits and giggles I was kinda hassling him- "Dude, goods thing you got that killer alrm system, because those green neon lights you got under that car make me want it!"
So he says "Yea, I know, I think you want to steal my car!"
He left his sunroof open and I told him I was gonna jump in thru the open roof and drive off with the prized GP! I said those neons are just too cool!
Then he got kinda serious and looked kinda disapointed and says "Hey man, are you hating on my ****?" I told him to chill out, that I'm just a wiseass and it's all good. Then he and his buddy asked if the Mach was mine, and they turned out to be pretty good kids.

Cops came thru around 11:30 so I decided to split. Was followed by a pack of ricers all the way to Silver Spring. Looks like they have a hangout on Hightway 100 and Silver Spring, behind the big Mobil Station, by the Dennys.
They waved me over to the lot so I parked there for awhile, they were actually pretty cool and asked a lot of questions about the Mach1.

We're all car nuts, that's what it's about. Sometimes you think all these fart-piped hondas are driven by disrespectful punks, not true.

Anyway, figured I'd post something to read about here in the Wisconsin forum.

FORGOT ME!!! For those 5 seconds in which you were gonna hit my pimpish ride, hahaha.

Good to see you hitting Oscar's on a regular basis. Funny though, you missed your identical Mach by like 5 minutes. We thought the same guy was rolling through again. Next time I'll be sure to stay up there a bit longer, just had places to be, and people to see, and girls waiting :)

I hope that ID WINN guy gets his stuff together. Would be nice to see that thing make a clean pass with no probs.

As for the Beeyond boys, Bee is a great person. Knows quite a bit and is respectful. I met him back in '01 when i first had my red car. Haven't talked to him this year, but I think i might stop in at the shop. They supposedly have a dyno there, so it may be another place to go for us locals for just that, since what I was quoted price wise was alot less than Borchardt's.

I do Borchardt's website so I will not comment on the price for dyno time. :D

I heard about the twin Mach1, mine is easy to spot; it has MACH-1.ORG window decals. ;)

Chris you up for GLD man, wanna cruise down? I think I might go today.

Greg,
I feel your pain man, I almost put it into the wall last year from all the rubber balls on the track.....
Do you think GLD would ever have a slicks only night like RT66 does once a mounth. they have a min 13 sec et rule to keep some of the slower bracket cars away.... Its hard to make any test passes at GLD because of all the street tires going down the track....
But I do like how GLD is fixing the place up & they wouldn't be able to do that if they didn't pack the house full with ricers & street cars.

Yea, it's a double-edged sword. All those newbies in time become more experienced.

I'll tak to Ray about your suggestion- this might be something we could do.

Outta here!

I gotta check that Oscar's hang out once, it sounds like a good time, but my ass is 25 miles south of the border. Once i have my car all set up, i'll then go. I got a full set of ProStars with skinny tires, just need to save for my Nitto's. (thanx Greg for the hook up at Discount Tire w/Todd).

Sounds like we left too soon last night though...missed some fun.

Steve, Discount Tire Direct is going to be one of our official MMA sponsors. :D

Becky, Tina scolded me for leaning on your car last night. Sorry! I am really touchy about people leaning on mine, and I am sorry if I did lean my keester on your Camaro. :(

Yo Greg,

I couldn't make it out there last night and I'm glad I didn't try to head out to GLD. However, I thought that I would at least once do 100...so tonight I took the Mrs. to anniversary dinner into town. For desert I tell her about this 100 stuff, so we did it. Yeah we were too early, but baby steps first...LOL

Any way we do the pass going North, I point out Oscar's, but we don't recognize any pony type cars, so we pass. We were being tagged along by a very nice F-body...a nice red WS6....I'm such a virgin, it takes me a while to really figure out if he's cruising...geez we were crossing over the "I" and still heading N when he revs it a couple of times....I finally realize I still have my numbers from GLD on my glass. An he's still looking to try figure out what the old couple are doing in a Mach on 100. So we run it up a bit up the hill before Mayfair, just enough to make some noise and get the Mrs. a little nervous...disclaimer "do as I tell you not as I do"...

We make a U-turn and head back South..still no pony cars at "O's" so we continue all the way down to look at the SVT stuff at Hilliers....we again see the WS6 (HEAT SKR??) and confirm that he is cruising, but we pass and act a bit more our age...LOL

We stop and check out the SVT's and Ponies at the dealer and I give the Mrs. a quick "411" and what's the difference between them and my Mach....we then drive it back up again and actually drive through "O's", just to say we did it and now we can. ...Next time we'll have to do it a little later as I'm sure there will be more pony friends around.

At one point there was a fart-canned Subaru making noise and moves, but no need to show him any respect....was still just a plain 4-banger with the standard Volks sound...brought me memories of the old VW days of mine...did a lot with air cooled 1600's in my early days... Last point of question, we couldn't figure out where the turn around is for doing the 100 loop cruise??

See you soon.

Ok, well Heat Seeker is John from Speed Seekers, Great guy, I have known him a long time. As far as where to turn around, that depends on you. I usually go south to Layton and turn around at Omega's and then cruise back north to Bluemound.

GLD was much better today Alex. I drove a Torch Red car that was running 14's and got it down to a 13.6 for the guy... :D

See ya next saturday man!!

John was cool and definetly completed my experience for the evening...if you see him or talk to him, let him know I thank him for being "cool"! Was nothing serious, just a little extended exhaust noise and a bit of tire chirp and I think I did stay with his tailights, but still it was his tailights... LOL

Yeah, I read your Torch Red story over at the ORG, actually I've been having a bit of the same problem...can't seem to get under 13.9....still spinning all the way through the 60...I think I still have a little hooking and axle aversion..

Bro, we'll see ya Saturday...

PS I did up-load some pics...wanted to change the timeslip and make it darker, can't figure out how to delete or replace photo?

Hey Alex, I know John real well too. Known him for a long time. If your MACH is stock and stayed at his taillights, i'll say you should take your level appreciation for your car up a notch. John's car is, how you say, NOT stock at all :) Not necessarily a take all comers combination, but far from stock, hehe

I hate missing good times like this with the Beeyond boys

Greg@GLD

Yea, I think you'll find that John was probably not hitting it as hard as he's capable of. ;)
Bet best- Race him at GLD. :D

It would be neat hearing it from his view and perspective...I'm sure I was way too consumed by my "foolishness" to really "see" the real story, but it will be a good memory for me...like being 18 again. :shifter: :thud:

OH YEAH... one more thing i've just remembered to ask.. Can I have a rematch with Mark at GLD for an MMA Day? Good 'ole Chevy vs. Ford battle. This time I won't redlight!!

As for the LT1 WS6, from what John has told me, his car should be MUCH faster than mid 13's???????

Maybe he can have a bad run (or two) like at the end of the day and when his gas is almost running out...then I can have a chance to win against even those low 13 cars, whil eI run my mid-13's.....remember  :worshippy

I really do need to learn how to drive better on the strip

So do I. I have yet to crack 2.0 on a street tire. I used to be able to do low 1.9's all day with the Cobra and then started to go deep into the 1.80's.
