What year did Ford start using the Maf in the Mustang?

1988 California models. 1989 was the first year MAF was standard on all Mustangs.

I'm not sure if I'm going to ask this question right or not but here it goes. What's the difference in performance? I'm I limited to how much power I can make with out the Maf? Confused?

Speed density cars with minimal mods are quicker than compareable mass air cars. However, mass air equipped cars respond much better to major modifications. Mass air cars are much more forgiving to bigger camshafts and will be much more streetable than a factory speed density equipped car with major modifications. I guess it all depends on what you want to do with the car. Neither system is bad.

It's been kind of proven that the MAF system responds better to changes in airflow. The speed-density cars were actually a little faster when brand new with no mods versus a Mass-air car, but start adding mods and the MAF-equipped models seem to run better.

I use to have a 92 GT and had to sell it before I left Seattle. I just found one here in the area. It's an 88. I like it but wasn't sure how much power I could make with a speed density.

Mark302 has a proven 12 second recipe for speed density equipped Mustangs. Maybe he will chime in.

The fastest factory speed density N/A car I know of ran 11.teens in the 1320.

The fastest factory speed density blower car I know of ran in the 10's.

Factory speed density cars just don't have the drivability that the mass-air cars do with mods.

My car still has factory speed density @ this time.

Hoping to go 11's this year N/A with the factory speed density system.

Well that's cool I would like a mustang that could run like mid 11's or low 12's. How are will it be to put in a maf to that 88? is it worth it?

If your looking to convert car to MAF I have some parts to get rid of CHEAP.Intake upper and lower, stock Fuel rails,65mm throttle body and MAF.Darrel knows more about converting it then me .But they do have a kit in summit I beleive, but I'm sure someone on here knows a better and quicker way.

Interactive Systems makes a mass air harness for $29.95. Very slick piece. I have used a couple of them in the past. www.mass-air.com

Thanks alot. I'll keep you in mind. I have to see if I can get this 88 first. I miss my black GT. I'm so mad that I had to get rid of it when I left Seattle.

As said here speed density cars run quicker than MAF. Speed density does not respond well to changes in intake vacuum caused by cams heads misc. The way around that is a stand alone engine management system. From there you can change table as your mods change. From what I hear MAF isn't as reliable (? probably wrong word) as speed density when it comes to making power. Then again stand alone systems aren't practicle cost wise for the average street car.
