I have 2002 F150 w/ 5.4 w/40k I started it this morning to go to work about 5 min away, used the remote start had no problems. Got to work and had to run to the hardware store and got in the truck tried to start it with the key and it would turn over but not start as if it wasent getting fuel...i tried that a few times and finally pumped the gas...it started but wanted to die until i gave more gas it then ideled very rough for a minute then was fine. Got to the store...when leaving the store it started fine. Anyone have any ideas, Ive heard a few people talk about bad gas at Citgos, i do get my gas from Citgo normally could that be the problem? or a dirty fuel filter?
Any ideas? Plaese help!

Did the check engine light come on at all? 4.6s and 5.4s in trucks are known for developing misfires.

The first time i tried to start it and it wouldn't, the light was on along with the oil temp with the key in the run/on position, but after the engine started they were off.

take it over to a local autozone and have them hook it up on the computer to see if there are any trouble codes. Sometimes the computer does have trouble codes going on but it doesn't trip the check engine light. I'd try that for starters. Otherwise maybe a tuneup to start with? Possibly replace the fuel filter. I'd do those basic things first.

Is this something they do free of charge?

sounds kinda like your IAC was stuck or a stuck EGR that got freed up after the truck was warm. Just a stab in the dark....You should try and pull some codes. Autozone does do it and it is free of charge. Just go in and tell them you need a vehicle scanned and they will be glad to do it

Thanks guys! I'll have take it over and get it checked out, my first thought when trying to start it was possibly the IAC...I had similar problem with my father's old ranger with the 3 liter, i cleaned the IAC a few times and ended up having to replacing it, but that was with like 75k. I just dont really have any knowlege on the newer mod moters.

Sounds to me like the fuel pressure regulator is bad. Sounds like it was flooded after yo drove to work and the diaphram is ruptured and leaked causing it to flood. Try pulling the vacum hose off of the regulator and see if there is fuel in it. Or swing by with it!!!

If you don't crank it over quite long enough to start then try again it is possible you just flooded it. No big deal. This time of year it is possible to get water in the gas also.
