Once again I am starting to shop for tires.

The problem I have is finding a good tire in my sizes.

Stock size is 205/65/15

I am currently running 225/60/15 in a Dunlop SP Sport 5000.

Others I have found are BFG g-force sport, Bridgestone Potenza G009.

I am picking up a set of Blizzaks for the winter so that is not an issue.
So anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kirk

The KDW's I have are great Kirk. Fantastic grip wet and dry "not snow of course". The jury's still out on the mileage, but I've got 15k mile all on twisty mountain roads and they've held up great not at the tread marker yet! Only drawback; Noise, they are pretty noisy on the freeway with the aggresive tread pattern, and a little pricey.

Thanks James.

Right now price is part of the equation.
I have looked at those.

Believe it or not Kirk, the Falcon's I put on my old Cobra were a great tire too, the price was definitely right. The name brand is a subsidary of a one of the bigger companies, Michelin? I can't remember. They look and perform similar to the Toyo Proxe's tread pattern on the left and right footprint and the 1" solid bar in the center. These tires hook well too, they are road raced tires in Europe, but relatively innexpensive for the quality of tire here in the states. Big - O carries them.

I will have to take a look at those.

Thanks.....

I have Cooper Zeons on my Cobra and they are POS IMHO. They seem to develop flat spots in just a few hours.
I have GoodYear Eagle F1-DS3s on my Jag and they are the best tires I have ever had on any car. Great traction, unbelievable cornering, no tram lining and they look cool. They also seem to wear well. I have about 10k on them and they will go another 10k.
My previous set was Bridgestone S-03s. They are great tires as well but tram line alot at least on the Jag. They lasted only 10k though. They make great thick clouds of smoke, the most of any tire I've had. (possible reason for excessive wear:) )

IMO, I would stay away from Goodyear and Cooper, I havent seen much good from either. Bridgestones are nice tires!

i'd take the stock goodyears that came on my car over the kuhmo's that i replaced them with... i think i have barely got a year out of them so far and they seem like its time to replace some of them. the stock goodyears had better traction and wore like iron.

The stock Goodyear's suck in the rain however.

I absolutely hated the stock Goodyears.

Anyone with experience with Continental ContiExtremeContact?

I would stay away from Continental, they seem to get dryrott very easy. Id stick with Bridgestone, Firestone, BFG, Nitto, or Yokohama. But not all of the last two are very good either you have to pick and choose. The NT555 are pretty nice but they may not make them in your size abd i bet you want a all weather tire?

I am picking up a set of winter tires from Tim, so winter performance is not a requirement.
Eventhough most seem to be in the High performance All-Seaon category.

Another possability is BFG traction TA VR good treadwear (440) & AA traction rating.

Dunlop Sport A2 also.

.Another possability is BFG traction TA VR good treadwear (440) & AA traction rating.

Just so you know the treadwear doesn't mean squat. They are not regulated by anything so they can make up whatever treadwear they want. 440 goodyear and 440 bfg or anything are not a way to judge teadwear. Same goes for traction

Here is a quote I got off one website

One little quirk: Testing tires for treadwear can be an expensive proposition. So the government merely asks the tire manufacturers to be able to justify their rating. In my experience this seems to mean different things to different people and a wide range of "justifications" are being used.

Another little quirk: Each tire manufacturer has its own philosophy about UTQG ratings, especially when it comes to the treadwear rating. Some view the rating as a huge marketing tool, while others tend to think of it as an implied warranty. Be cautious when you compare ratings - they may not be "apples to apples".

Note to anyone who wants to buy tire... I'm not going to go on here bragging about Firestone tires or Bridgestone tires but if there is a tire you want. Go to www.tirerack.com and read the reviews on the tires you want. That's more accurate then the manufactures silly ratings.

Customers are always honest about their money spent

dana put bfg traction t/a's on her car last summer and said that they were pretty good (she had the comp t/a's that i have on my car now). those are probably what i'm going to get when i wear the comp t/a's out.

I have been reading a bunch of customer reviews.
I agree that's the only way to see what they really do.

For tires, on my 98 supercharged V6 I had 245/45R17 Kumho Ecsta Supra 712's. They are very stick tires and I loved em. Good soft tread, and the tread pattern is pretty sweet looking in my opinion. The picture I attached is of the Kumho's. On my 1997 GT I had Goodyear Gatorbacks, and they were 255/45R17's, and I loved them. I'd say I'd go with the Goodyears because they seem like they will last longer, and they are definitely harder rubber. The Kumho's wear quickly, especially with someone who drives aggressively and has a heavy foot :thumbs_up

I spelled the name wrong Kirk, it's "Falken" made by Sumitomo. The tires I had on the Cobra were the FK-451, road hazard, replacement for life of tire.
Here's a link.
