I was reading on another site that a guy had just installed spherical bearing control arms and was getting a ton of clunking noises out of the rear. So, another guy chimed in saying he had just the upr spherical bushings on the housing and those too made a lot of noise going down the road and over bumps.
So, for those running the spherical axle housing bushings.........
is this true or false?
I am about to purchase some and really don't want to have to deal with all kinds of clunking noises coming from the rear while I am driving.
Thanks,
Dave

Considering they are solid metal I imagine they would make noise. They don't have any give/cushion like polyurethane or rubber. The benefit is a very stiff and solid rear. I am in the process of putting them in my 92 with the spherical upper and lower control arms.

I have also read that they make noises, but from my personal experience you will never know they are there until you 60' time drops. :D
You can't go wrong with 15% off of UPR products!

My caster/camber plates never made noises and they use a spherical bearing. My rear uppers with a spherical made no noises. Spherical bearings that are new are pretty tight. The spherical bearing that are teflon coated are extremely tight when new. You will not get any clunking noises from the solid mount unless there is excessive clearance in the bearing. Granted, the solid mounts will transfer more NVH than stock mounts.

i run them on my car and i dont hear anything other than the engine but thats with 42 years old abused ears though. the only thing i hear is the rear end braces that i made (so i didnt have to weld the axle tubes) hitting the exaust (soon to be revised)
i say go for it you wont be disappointed

Thanks a lot for all the input. I will get them and worst case is if they make sooooo much noise, I can always change them.
Thanks,
Dave

I've heard that to eliminate the noise people are going half spherical and half poly that way there's minimal deflection and a quieter ride. But I'm just starting research on this myself.
Can you swap out a spherical bushing for a poly one or would you have to buy a whole new arm for that?

these fit into the axle housing not the control arms
