I called inquiring on the lack of boost I am seeing on the gauge.
His reply, "This has to be a belt slipping issue. If the supercharger is building boost, then there is nothing wrong with the head unit. Once a bearing or belt goes, you loose all boost, not partial. Go with a Goodyear Gatorback belt, this should prevent slippage with out having to crank that belt down super tight. It is common you will see flex in the main plate by cranking the belt down, the gatorback should prevent you from doing this because they tend to grip nicely. You should see 8-9lbs with the 9 lb pully, unless you car is more modified."
What is your guys' take on this? Does it sound accurate?

It's the drive belt. See if you can buy a strut brace from Kurgan so you can tighten the belt down with out flexing the bracket.

Thanks, Maybe someday I'll talk to greg about it. Right now I'm just glad I found another cool Mustang/Ford web site. I've been reading post on this site for a week or so and it seems like one of the nices sites out. The people all seem very down to earth.

The rep is correct. Chances are if your car is modified in any way you won't see 9 lbs of boost. I had a 89 lX convertible with only a o/r H-pipe, cat-back and 3.55 gears. The MOST boost I saw out of it was 7lbs and was usualy around 5-6 lbs. Powerdyne chargers are rated for absolutely stock 5.0's. My 92 GT had a powerdyne on it at one time and after full exhaust, TF intake, and throttle body, I was lucky to see 5 lbs of boost. I put on a vortech 7" crank pulley and the powerdyne 11 lb upper and finally saw 8-9 lbs. Powerdynes are good chargers as long as they are not abused. They work really well on auto stangs since there is less strain on the internal belt vs power shifting a manual stang. Good sucess story is my ex g/fs brother went 6.91 in the 1/8 in his 89lx with a 347 kit, gt-40 intake, 36lb injectors, aod with 3000 stall, 3.73's and a powerdyne.
Do not over tighten the belt it will take out the bearings. I was having the same problem with mine low boost and the rep (Sam) told me to tighten the belt as much as I could by myself. Well 50 miles later it was screaming making much more noise then my friends Vortech. So I call them and send it to Cali. for them to Warranty it they call me back 3weeks later and tell me the bearings are shot from me over tightening the belt and it will be $650 plus shipping back because the warranty only covers Manufacture defects. I plead my case stating Sam told me to crank it down as much as possible and they tell my that if I want it fixed it will be $650 plus shipping PERIOD. Almost a month later I got it back and still only 5lbs with Twisted wedge heads, GT-40 intake, and good exhaust. So I called them back and they told me I was lying and with a 9lbs pulley and that combo I was seeing at least 7lbs, I had Paid for a 9lbs kit. Moral of the story is you get what you pay for I should have boughtin the vortech for a grand more. A S-trim produces 1200cfm and has way more under the curve and a belt drive PowerPuke makes 800cfm. BTW this combo with the PowerPuke went 122mph at GLD in a full weight 90 GT in '99

What good is a blower if you can't abuse it???
They are good when you only EVER want 6lbs if you ask me. That will only be enough until you hit a light with a guy with a Procharger , Vortech, or Paxton.

What is this traction stuff your talking about? Does it come in a bottle? Where can I buy some? :D
Mikey, How do you tell if you belt is tight enough? How old is the belt? Do you retighten it after you first install it?
Belt tension and pulley contact plays a big roll in spinning the impeller. You want as much as possable. I installed a new belt on the car made two passes in a row on the dyno. The car lost 2# on the second pass because the belt streached and lost tension on the pulley.

I will re-tighten the belt come spring. I see that ou can buy an aftermarket tensioner that assists in tightening of the belt. 5-6 lbs is gs good enough for me I guess. I am always after reliablilty vs. power. We'll go from there and see what happens.

Where did you find an aftermarket tensioner? I think those are only for vortech!
