View Full Version : Suspension questions for street / strip combo

I'm getting started on the suspension on my car and need some guidance. So far, I intend to get:

-MM Full Length Subframes
-Adjustable UCA's
-LCA's (Not sure if I should go adjustable or not) If I don't need to I'd love to save the money getting solid ones.
-Strange Adjustable shocks and struts

I'm probably going to stick with the stock springs for now.

Now, my question is, who makes good UCA's and LCA's for the money and does it sound like I'm going the right route here?

I'm making about 315 RWHP and 330 TQ and will most likely run low 12's to high 11's with traction.

Any recommendations on what I should and should not purchase would be of great help!

Thanks!

GRN-GMC7998WJ

I was looking at these on summit's website for $199. On Granatelli's website GMC7998WJ is their $531 double adjustable lower control arm and are tubular in design, not boxed like on summit even though the part #'s are the same. I'm confused.

Do you think if I ordered them from summit, I'd get the $531 ones or the cheaper boxed perch adjustable solid ones? I heard that Granatelli is on this website frequently so I'm hoping that they may chime in here.

you could order them directly from GMS and get them for 199 or cheaper.. He has also introduced a FORGED aluminum weight jacker lower with alot of new features... I will be putting the new forged ones on my car for the 2005 season..

I have used the Granatelli adjustable weight jacker lowers and double adjustable uppers in the past. They work great!

1st the Summit kit is a fixed upper and lower - it has no adjustablity. IF you are looking for all fixed then call Summit and order that kit you will be very happy.

2nd Darrell above is talking about the higher end parts that are adjustable I think Summit has them for 125 for uppers and 199.95 for the lowers those parts numbers are GMCA7998WJ - the WJ means weight jacker and that means you can adjust (preload) the rear of the car. the uppers are GMCA7900U again fully adjustable for pinion angle.

The fully adjustable parts work way better but ride a bit rougher becuae it is all solid mount. it is still streetable but no like stock ride at all .

Kurgan is talking about the Aluminum WJ arms for the lower that are the strongest out there and lighter then the standard GMCA7998WJ but for 350 hp it comes down to money a preferance. You can't go wrong with any of the 3 choices

Hope that helps. GMS will not undercut our customers on price so Summit or Kurgan MotorSports are the best 2 choice for you at this point.

Are the new forged weight jackers adjustable laterally as well as at the spring perch?

I'd go solid for the lowers but everyone tells me to go adjustable in the event that I wind up running a slick or power adder in the future. The adjustable lowers are just as strong as the solids right?

Thanks for all the great info!

So the GRN-GMC7998WJ Summit part is indeed the fully adjustable weight jacker lowers and the price is correct then. Great! The large price difference just confused me.

Flyin Hawiian, you have a PM.

As long as I have some attention, is there much difference between tubular vs square subframes? I'm stuck between the Maximum Motorsports full lengths or the Global West Tubulars. (Both with seat braces).

Flyin, not sure if you deal with subframes or not...

Finally, how long has GMS been dealing in suspension? I always thought they were mainly electronics. Shows what I know lol.

I'm running Steeda Aluminum lowers and Alston Racing (out of Antioch), uppers with UPR spherical bearings in the axle side. Both uppers and lowers are fixed (non adjustable). I like them a lot, UPR makes great control arms too. Since you're local, let me know if you need a hand with anything.

Thanks for the offer! I'm still up in the air on adjustable vs non. I think I may just go adjustable but the solids offer less for me to screw up on lol.

what are the differances on upper and lower adjustable
what does the lower do and what does the upper do if used with one being fixed
if i was to put an anti rollbar would you need just upper adjustable or lowers or both?
sorry to steal the thread but i thought we all could learn something about what the bennys are from the use

Adjustable uppers allow you to adjust pinion angle and preload. Adjustable lowers allow you to center the tire in the wheelwell for tire clearance. The weight jacker models like the ones Granetelli sells are nice for raising the vehicle or lowering the vehicle. I believe you can lower the car one inch or raise it two inches with those arms.

Adjustable lowers will center the wheel. Little typo there methinks.

Fixed! :greg:
