i dont know where my problem lies but we can start here
ever since i have owned the car it will buck at low rpms 1500-1800 (kind of a bitch to drive on the street)
and if you stall it you have to give it some throttle to clear it out and when you start the car cold it smells rich like gas. on the dyno the fuel pressure was good and had good A/F readings. it runs great at higher rpms is this possible a mass sensor problem or does it lie somewhere else?
im running 306 with 30lbs injectors w/ c&l meter body calibrated for 30 lbs
trick flow street or track heat intake ( unsure dont know how to tell)
comp cam (xtreme w/563 / 574 lift? i would have to look at sheet)
afr 185 heads, long tube headers with oxg. sensors. i dont know if this is enough info for the pro's or not. but i would like to fix this problem before i spend it ($) on some new rear suspension parts
so either way Granatelli will get my money ( is that 10 % discount offer still good) :thumbs_up
thanks scott

Have you checked the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage?

tps replaced and set to .98
another problemof sorts is when you hit the throttle it comes down really slow. i dont know if these are all related or not

Is it a 5 speed car? Bucking at low rpms with a big cam 5 speed car is not uncommon.

yes 5 speed

so the bucking might not be anything other than the cam but what of the fuel smell and weak throttle return ?

What size C&L, and is the mass air electronics "sensor" a C&L unit, Ford or other?
I have had similar problems. I had/have a C%L meter housing 95mm and used the factory electronics, stall rough idle, slow rpm increase and decrease. Changed back to the stock mass air meter housing, problem solved. Unfortunately a calibrated mas air sensor and housing are not always acurate.

I have had problems with C&L junk too.

The hanging rpms could be a vacuum leak.

Ditto, I even had a Ford tuner say the C&L piece was junk, sure looked good in billet aluminum though! The problem with the C&L is the location of the sampling tube and the "ramp" at WOT or higher rpms car ran great. The transition between closed/open loop was the problem.

it may just be that the 30# injectors are too big for that motor. Injectors that large, with a motor that small, running at low RPMs equals a VERY small duty cycle. This would explain the rich smell..

I had 30 lb injectors in my 306 with Canfield heads and a very similar cam and it had no rich smell and no stalling. It didn't buck either but it had a C4 in it.

Mass Air meter size mm? Throttle body size mm? Screen in or out of mass air housing?
30# injectors aren't too big for a 306 IMO.

it has the ford sensor and i am unsure of size but am guessing its atleast 70 or 75 with the c&l pipe i dont even know for sure what t body is on it, i havent taken a caliper to it yet. weds. was the first time ive been to the garage since nov.
and i was waiting to hear about the injectors being to big for what i have
i have also heard that c&l has problems

I would bet on it being the C&L, I have one and have had nothing but problems! My car idles up and down and dies at almost evry stop sign. They are junk and I will never use one again. I know its my meter, I bought it used from a guy who said he was having the same problem and couldnt figure it out. I have a Pro-M optimizer but it cant polish the C&L turd enough it can change it but not fix it. Clocking the meter can make my car not get enough fuel also the only real fix is to ditch it and get a different meter!!! Good Luck

I have driven Scooter's car and I really think it is that cam. The car seems to run and drive great other than driving slow. That cam is a monster with a lower compression 306!

Every time I hear mass-air cars with issues, it doesn't bother me that mine is still factory speed density, with minor issues. Hope you get it fixed. (Scott & Adam)

I had a C&L in my 88 (after converting it) and never had issues with it.

I bet if you put a 65TB on your car it would run alot better, and probibly faster too!

What gears are you running? Justin had this problem with his mustang due to the cam size and when I upped his gears from factory to 3.55's the problem went away.

Oh I also changed his pinion angle by a couple degrees...

I agree also on a N/A application like he is ruuning the 65mm IMO would be better, now if he plans on adding a blower in the future than I understand only wanting to buy one. Scooter if you dont plan on ever getting a blower Ill trade yo my 65mm for yours!!!!

the weird thing about scotts mass air meter is that it has ford electronics on it,i was there fri looking at it with him.i agree scott i think u should try the 65mm TB.

My crappy C&L uses ford electronics also!

All C&L meters use Ford electronics. The C&L meters come bare and you have to reuse your old electronics.
