Now that I am going with cams

I have to pick between VT stage 1 or 2 and if im going to go with comp valve springs or keep them stock

And Fattystang....... your input does not count because your helping with the install, I need to make up mind in the next few days because I am going to be sending my chip out for a reburn ( for a few other things) and I am going to have MD motorsports put a base tune for the cams on it so it will some what idle if I go with the stage 2's.

If it were me I would do the stage 2's with the valve springs...

I was thinking that 2, I just dont know if it will be worth it ( added cost of dyno tuning ) since for now I dont plan on going with ported heads, but then again you never know two weeks ago I was not planning on doing cams for a while

It just makes sense to me to do it right the first time....you could do the stage 1's and then regret not getting the 2's...

I see your point on that, maybe im just kind of scared about doing the damn valve springs

i have read of people taking 8+ hours just doing the springs :thud:

The best way to do it is just take the heads out of the car and do them on the bench. It may seem like a lot more work initaially, but will probably save you time in the long run.

I would BUT that would mean taking my long tubes off (well at least the drive side)

I think Im going to go with the stage 2's and valve springs anyway

What bitch?!
I like my Stage one's but with winter and all, i haven't really had the opprotunity to really enjoy them, just a few sideway trips down the block :shifter: I was in your shoes back in December. I could not decide on the stage one or two :HittingHe I weighed out the pros/cons.
Stage 1's Pro's
Easier and less time to install w/o changing springs, cost less (springs), good power up to 5800rpms. No tune really necessary. Almost no chance of PTV contact.
Stage 1's cons
Has a nice lopy idle, but not that muscle car crackle like the stage 2's. Gives 10-15rwhp less than the stage 2's

Stage 2's Pro's
Great power up to 6300rpms. Kick ass sounding lopey idle. Same cost as Stage 1 cams. Never heard of PTV contact with these.
Stage 2's Con's
have to spend an extra $190 for valve springs. Install is a bitch when changing the valve springs and will take a lot more time. The duration may be too much for spray, like you heard before from Scott @ VT. Can only get full potential out of them with ported heads and a better lower manifold. A tune will be needed.

I have no regrets with my stage 1's, it should get me to my goal of 12's NA on drag radials...if not, i'm hoping someone here can let me borrow some ET Drags for a run or two at the track :hehe:

Let me know when you need help! :thumbs_up

Unless the duration is completely retarded big I wouldn't even regard this as a factor - - you would **** if you knew my cam specs, and my motor see's almost Only nitrous use.

Dont make come over there and kick you in the nuts :thumbs_up

I am still at a loss, the whole cam swap with everything for the stage 2's is going to run about 950-975 ( so the cost is a con)

but I plan on picking up the p51 manifold in the future
ported heads is a maybe, but that will come WHEN the motor lets go.

and I plan on more compression down the road as well

the biggest CON, the damn valve springs scare the crap out of me, the good thing is most that have problems doing them were doing them with only one set of hands not two or maybe even three

I know a guy that can knock them out in a fraction of that time. He'd prolly be willing to oversee you doing them for some beer if you wanna do them and not have to pay for install.
