what needs to be done to get the speedo right? i'm thinking about going with 4.56's can you get a speedo gear for that or do i need to get a chip or a control module?

thanks

There are gears but I think some of the newer cars can be programmed as well. We were discussing this in another thread yesterday. Check it out and also the link within it.

I'm not possitive that 97s can be fixed via a chip. I had to use a Abbot ERA speed compensator. It wires between the VSS and computer and adjusts for gear change or tire height change. You just have to adjust the dip switches in it.

the 4.56 is not that extreme in a 4v mod motor, as for fixing the speed, with the t-45 trans you have 3 options

1- chip
2- ecu flash
3- speed cal ( as shane said) you can get it from dallas mustang and a few other places

AGREED. A 4.56 is NOT by any point too extreme for a stock 4V, they need to rev. I have had one in my car for 4 years now, and I drive it all summer, to and from the track so on. I have a blower on the car now and still have a 4.56, just needed a taller tire.

Ghost is probably right about the chip and ecu flash, i think the case was when I did my first big gear none of the chip companies had that option in their software and no one was doing reflashes. The speed cal is about $100 I think.

what is a ecu flash?

they can reprogram the the ECU ( computer) by looking a progammer to the OBD ll port

Be careful with the ECU flash if you have ODBII emission testing. People have been having issues with getting the emmisssion place readers to read the ECU after it has been flashed by SCT.
