So I'm probably going to convert the mustang to 5 lug. I was going to go with 1990 Lincoln mark 9 front rotors with rear 80's driver side ranger axels. The wheels I aim to run are 99 cobras. Any suggestions or comments on my idea? Would I be going about this wrong or does it sound about right?

Measure the hub of the wheels before you do anything. There are very limited 94 and newer wheels that work with the big hub Lincoln rotors. You might have to pick some different wheels or convert the front using SN95 spindles and rotors. Other than that the Lincoln rotor/Ranger axle swap is pretty straight forward and simple.

The Lincoln front rotors will not work with the 99 Cobra wheels. You can mount the wheel up but the center cap will not go on. You will be real limited on wheel choice if you use Lincoln rotors. My suggestion as Darrell stated would be the SN-95 spindles....

does he need to change spindles to use the 94-95 rotors or will they bolt right up?

Yes the spindles would need to be changed to SN-95 stuff.

how hard is that to do?

Its not really that hard...basically removing all the old stuff and bolting on the new stuff.

sounds pretty simple

One more thing to add to this is some factory wheels will physically bolt on but will not seat fully against the rotor due to interference between the rotor hub and the hub hole in the wheel. This is usually not noticed with the naked eye unless you spin the wheel and watch it wobble.

To do the swap....take out the stuff between the upper and lower control arms, put in new ball joints if needed and new spindle. I also will be doing that switch sooner or later, but want to get my Engine built first...then worry about the rest of my car. Im also doing the 5 lug disc rear swap and adding a posi. (Sorry if I hi-jacked the thread)

I for one have never done steering/suspension work ever, and if someone is willing to show me how to do this, I will gladly pay for all parts, your time, and a case of beer so I can see how this is done.

I appologize for my earlier post. I was thinking of the suspension on my thunderbird. There is no upper ball joints on a fox body because the strut acts like the ball joint....but everyone knows that.

How ever the offer is tempting....case of beer and get to wrench on another stang.

As fastlxtasy said the 99 wheels will not work with lincoln rotors, you have to have 94-95 spindles and hubs, calipers, caliper mounting brackets, banjo bolts for those calipers, get a spacer for the fox ball joint or the steeda replacements also you will loose pedal feel alittle so a 94-95 master would be a good addition. That should about do it on the front, the rear you can use ranger drivers side axels, and drums. You will notice the rears will be alittle further in than the front. Either leave it like that or try some spacers from Maximum Motorsports, or SN length axels. If you use SN axels you have to run SN rear disc setup as well. Any other questions just ask!
