You didn't have to go thru all of this just to post your event Hank. You didn't wander over here by accident. You've been making the rounds of all the boards to post your event notice. This isn't any different.
See you next October, or whenever the next one is. ;)
I hope that 41 stays open. I'd hate for all the GLD haters on Chicago SVT to have to force themselves to come to that dump known as GLD... :hehe:

Didn't you this last fall Shane? Or win one of the classes I mean?
If I didn't live so far away from 41, I'd attend...

Gee wiz, I can understand why a guy that regularly attends US 41 wouldn't want to go to GLD. I normally run at a track that is on the low side of the spectrum (but not as dumpy as US 41) and I think I would go into shock racing at a track such as GLD that performs maintainence and upgrades on a regular basis.......

I took runner up this past fall in the heads up class. Thought I had it in the bag and that sonic 03 put a beating on me, he picked up .3 in the final over what he had ever other pass. HAHA.
It is a fun event, would be worth the trip down if you can make it greg. But I know how it can be to get away on a weekend.

I hear ya on chicago, nice thing about coming from the west burbs is not having to go through the city. I have thinking about getting a group to go down and stay in scherrville the night before and have a 'pre-party'. Not a blow out, but just few beer and wings, crash at the holiday inn and then just have a 30 mile drive in the AM.
Too slow, come on now. Your cobra is right in the mix of things. Not to mention the day is about just having fun more than the heads up or bracket race.

Quiet You! :p
Yes I came to spread the word, but I like to be active in as many local boards as I can  I prefer talking and taking part of my regions activities and discussions
If I didnt wander over here by accident why didnt I post about MSC V1.0 last May? Or MSC v2.0 last October? This is one of the biggest Midwest Ford sites and I think Id hit it up every chance I had. I had truly forgotten about the site.... I ran across it on Corral.net where you guys were trying to get a newbie to join ;)
I hope 41 stays open too, and I honestly do. We need more tracks, not less. And losing a track that is affordable to rent out and is extremely lax on Tech would be a huge loss. If you read what I responded to your "GLD Haters" message on ChicagoSVT I really dont think your comments were appropriate. People have opinions and experiences, and its their right to express/discuss them. I have never been to GLD because of the distance involved, but I certainly dont have a problem with it. Hell, I like 41, Im sure Id LOVE GLD.
And as I also said on ChicagoSVT, If you guys rent out the track Id appreciate it if you threw some info my way

I would call it a race day as much as Id call it a Ford Day. Just a bunch of Ford guys BSing and and having fun. With some competitive action thrown in to get the blood pumping :burnout:

Usually in the Frankfort/Mokena region. But I split my summers between there and Bloomington. And from late August- early April Im out here in Colorado for school
Thanks for the compliments

Hank, if you're sincere, then I'll appologize and extend a proper welcome.
Now about those improper comments... All I did was edjumacate some of those guys.
Now, put yourself in my shoes for a moment Hank- I have worked at GLD for many years. It's a truly legendary place with regard to the sport. Next to Cordova Raceway Park, GLD is the oldest dragstrip in the world. We are the oldest continously operating track on the planet (Cordorva was closed for a time). I am proud of GLD, the ownership group has poured a lot of money into the place, and it pains me to read some of that stuff, when it seems most of it is from people who either haven't been there ever, or in 10 years. :D Besides, I wasn'r rude, I just pointed out how things really are and offered suggestions on how to get better results. And I offered a friendly challenge to an '03 Cobra owner..
Here's some snippets, if I may? Would you not agree some of this is just plain garbage? I suspect my fellow MMA members will get a kick out of some of this:
"GLD is pretty bad... Also, forget about getting any traction. The staging lanes are so slippery and poorly maintained, it's almost like driving in the rain. Even the AWD cars spin like crazy. You can get MUCH better traction on the street than on GLD's track.
"GLD... I haven't been there since 93 when I ran my stock 93 14.2 completely stock. Needless to sayI never went back, I didn't like the place.."
Never been there with my car, GLD I heard sucks...
This one is my favorite!!!
Spent a few hours at Great Lakes Dragway in Wisconsin. Out of all the tracks I've been to, this one has got to be the worst ones ever. It might even be the worst track in the country!
You know you're at a crappy track when:
- The stands are so dilapidated that they threaten to collapse at any moment, sending you to your death.
- The staging lanes are so slick that you wonder if they’re prepping them with motor oil.
- The “tree” has burnt out light bulbs.
- The time displays only work 50% of the time.
- When it is working, there are so many burnt out light bulbs on the time display that you can’t read it. It has been like this for more than 4 years.
- The guy that “techs” you in has the nickname “Nazi Tech” and you’re certain that he’s an escaped convict.
- The place is usually filled with more than 80% rice.
- Most of the spectators believe that a mid 15 second run is considered fast.
- The bathrooms are boarded up and have a big sign reading “CLOSED” forcing you to pee in the bushes.
- The parking lot has pot-holes large enough to swallow a Honda.
To be fair, he's right about the scoreboards. They are 50 years old and we want to replace them with new LED baords as soon as funds allow. The bulbs are not the problem, it's the wiring in the ground.
I invite you and any of those guys who have never been to GLD to be my personal guests sometime this season. You can formulate your own opinions, good, bad or indifferent. I'll comp you guys in so there's no monetary risk. If you don't like our facility, then you can at least say that you have personally been there. One of the things I take great exception to, is the contention that our crew is "rude" to the racers. Nothing could be farther from the truth. We have a great group who have been especially kind to this club (MMA) in particular. A couple summers ago, they let us host a 2-day campout Hank. (It was a CPG event) We stayed overnight (like 100 people!!) and we raced for two days. It was awesome.
Anyway Hank, as I said, if you are sincere then please accept my sincere apology and let's just enjoy the common hobby we share as Mustang enthusiasts.

Now that is funny stuff right there, I don't care who you are.
I had a guy on WSD comment about his buddy that went to the 2nd RSD in October 2003 at GLD. He said his buddy was pissed and will never go back to that slippery race track and neither will he. They left at noon. I recall the day very well. It rained like a mother all day and night the day before. The track was soaked and probably could have closed with a rain out. However there were so many people there they stayed open and spent a few hours drying the track. They made several announcements about track conditions and needing street tire cars to run down the track to help dry things up. This guy that will never go back was about the only car with slicks that was making passes with all of the radial tire cars. He might as well have launched his car in the water box. By mid afternoon the track was hookin' like a mofo. The guy should have stuck around until after they dryed all the water off the track! Drive trains were breaking like crazy all afternoon and night long. Drive trains don't break on tracks that don't hook......

You do have to pick your spots too. We are a busy track, so it helps to pay attention to the race events and who you follow thru the lanes. If you come on a day when we have a lot of street cars, it's better to try to get in line behind a big-tire car versus a front driver. It's also awesome to come on days when we have nitrous brawls, as the track hooks like crazy.
Yes, amazingly enough, its one of the few and far between times Im sincere on Message Boards :p
I understand whats its like for people to make comments about something you hold dear and try to hold high as possible....You just did it to me unknowingly....but its all good. Awareness is Enlightenment.
I agree some were out of line, but some were from experiences 10+years ago. If Im hearing you right, its a totally different place now than it was 10 years ago. Drag any of those people out and show them what youve done and Im sure they'll change their opinions very quickly :thumbs_up
I'll come up over summer to check the place out. You dont have to let me in for free, just look past whats not under tha car ;)

Greg, if you guys ever get the "broadcast capabilities" the wireless boards are a cinch and much cheaper than running new wiring, trenches, conduit, bulbs etc. :thumbs_up
