Does anyone know at what point it is mandatory to run a Window Net?

I plan to run mid to high 9's, but I really don't want to put one in my car if I don't have to.

you will have to do alot of things to run below 9.99in the 1/4 or something like 6.2 in the 1/8.
a cage thats certified with a net.
SFI fire jacket & pants, glooves, neck collar, shoes.
you'll need a license from NHRA or IHRA. that means you'll neddd to take a phiscal every 2 yrs & take the drivers test.
GLD will not let you run without all these things or any other track thats NHRA or IHRA for that matter.

GLD started too realy check cars over at the end of last year. you had to show your license or you couldn't run anymore..... they kicked me out for going 152 mph without a chute. & the rule is anything over 150 mph needs a chute....

Sounds like I have a lot of things to look into.

How do you go about getting a license?

Where do you get your cage certified?

the cage will have to be certified by a NHRA offical. NHRA will list when & were you can go. or you have to pay the guy to come to you.

the license forms will be on the nhra & ihra web pages & they will tell you what you have to do.
I went to RT 66 & did my license passes on a slicks only night. they have a lane just for license passes & try to get your 6 runs all done in 1 night.

they go over your car to make sure everything is right before they will let you make a pass.

I know that GLD will be NHRA in a year or 2, so I would get a NHRA license.....

Does anyone have some pictures of their Window Net installation?

I purchased a universal installation kit from Jeg's, but I don't see how that kit is going to work for me. I would not be able to get in and out of the car.

Thanks

most window nets use an old seat belt buckle. weld the recever to the cage & the buckle tab to the window net rod. so you can put the net up & it will lock in & then you just push the buckle button to unlock it & drop the net down...... I will see if I can post a pic of my old setup, like the one that I just tryed to explain.

That sounds real similar to the kit I bought, my question is about the lower rod and where it should be welded? The way I see it the bar will be right in the way to get in and out of the car. Did you remove the lower rod in order to get in and out of your car?

I see.... run a 1/8" dia plastic coated cable (like dog leash from the hardware store) from the lower rod of the net, to your cage. youll have to weld a tab so you can bolt the cable to the cage. then the lower rod & net can move out of your way somewhat getting in & out of the car..... the cable dosen't have to be tight when the net is up over the window, you can have some slack in the cable so you have a little more room. just so the net covers the window.

I thought you could not use any dogleash type material to meet NHRA spec?
Someone posted that earlier in this thread.

I just want to make sure whatever I build will pass tech.

That is good enough for me.

Did you have one side of the lower rod welded, or did you use cable on both ends?

the end by the seat should have a rod end on it & then bolted to a tab off the cage, so it can swing down when you get in & out of the car.
