I'm having some problems with my exhaust. The pipes that curve over my axle were hitting the axle and making a flat groove into the axle and exhuast, so i decided i wanna run dumps. I cut the pipes off after the mufflers. I have Flowmasters and know everyone is goin' to say, oh the drone will drive me crazy. I'll plan to get another cat back in a year or so, if it does. but in the meantime, with 4.30's, i am never really in that 2000rpm droning range. But with a whiny 4.30's and noisy coilovers, what's a little extra noise;) My probelm is, the muffler has 2.5" pipes going in and going out of the muffler. So i picked up some cheap 2.5" turndowns from Autozone. The opening of the dumps are actually 2-5/8", but guess what, so are the ends on the mufflers so i can't slide them on  And 3" turn downs are too big and long. I know plenty of guys run turndowns, what should i do to make it fit right. I know one shop said they can do it for $40 which is cheap, it's just finding time to drop the car off, but like most my mods/work, i would like to do it myself.

you could just try cutting slits into the elbows you picked and slide them over and clamp them on until you can have it welded

Moving to a tech forum.

You should be able to use a "pipe expander" you can buy one at any local parts store and expand those turndowns. A muffler shop should be able to expand them for you also.

I have a tailpipe expander that would probably work.

Steve just get the 3" turndowns and have them welded on or clamped on

Well the dumps are on, but i'm not happy with the job it did:( I used an impact gun at Joel's and got one of them expanded to a size that would fit, but when doing the next dump, i stripped the bolt on Expander tool, sorry Autozone  I got the passenger side on fine and it's clamped on securely at a good height. My issue is the driver side, since i only got the expander to expand the pipe only 1/32" before i stripped it, i had Joel cut 4 slits in the pipe. Well i couldn't really get the damn thing to slide on the muffler and hold so i could clamp it, so maybe a 1/4" pipe is on the muffler and i clamped it the best i could. But the tip of the turn down is like 2" off the ground only! I fear it may slip off since it's not on fully and/or if i hit a bump i'll lose the turn down completely! But that muffler always seemed to sit lower than the passenger side, how do i fix that?
It did quiet down the car though.

Steve, Sorry to heart that. Maybe get another one and now that all places are open just pay someone at an exhaust shop to open it up. Heck, You might be able to buy a 3" turndown from them too

Do you like how it sounds now?

All done, went to my one mechanic i trust, he had a turn down laying around and he expanded it to the size i needed and gave it to me for free! Got home and it fit like a glove, exhaust is done, and i have enough ground clearence with it to!
