Not that you want to hear this but my last t-5 started making a howling noise and before I got to take it apart I blew up third gear. I never really got to see what was wrong before I replaced it.

oh well it was a free tranny so if it dies im not out anything.but i hope its not that, was it doing anything weird before hand?

is the T.O bearing setup right? if it makes noise all the time? the T.O bearing shouldn't be spining when you don't have the clutch peddle pushed in. it should have a gap between the bearing & clutch fingers.
maybe the cable is set wrong. to tight & not letting the clutch fork come back twords the trans enough.

My TO bearing makes a god awful racket. I keep my foot on the clutch while cruising to make it go away.

That symptom sounds more like a pilot bushing than the TO bearing.

Kelley did you grease the fork on the bearing end and the bushing end? Is the fork used? Did you install the bearing on the correct side of the clips on the fork? Did you get the noise right away or did it just come on after some mileage?

I've had brand new bearings from both Autozone and Napa go bad on me in less than 1500 miles. I get them from Ford now.

I agree that it sounds more like the pilot bearing....Its no easier to replace than the throwout bearing...but it looks like you are going to have to pull the tranny and have a look at both of them...

the TO bearing is the metal one,and tomorrow the tranny is coming out so i can replace them both.
