What does everyone do as far as torqueing heads down? I have ARP studs. I did get one head on and torqued the top row to 80 pounds and the bottom row to 70 pounds. Should I go higher or does that sound good? Also, after the heads are put on and everything is back together, should I run the car, let it cool down and re-torque them? I did a head gasket once before and I never retorqued them. I've heard both sides from different people...don't retorque/retorque. I cant wait to get everything put back together!

I torque them according to the pattern in my service manual for SBF. (small block Ford)Some styles of gaskets are designed in such fashion that they do not require a re-torque. I think the racers here (especially the carb guys) will tell you they re-torque them as a matter of routine, but I know a lot of guys with EFI cars who don't, because of the hassle of taking the valve covers off again. Of course, that's little work compaired to replacing blown gaskets from not re-torquing.

I would also torque to ARP specs. They are usually different than the manufacturers numbers. If at all possible use the ARP lube, it is a much smoother turn than just using oil.

I go EXACTLY as the ARP , (and AFR), directions told me to do. And, just to cya, EVERY time I run the valves, (adjust/ck lash), I recheck as many of the head bolts are readily accessible. (but then I"m a bit anal on maintenence issues)....:>)

i never retorqued mine...with the lt's I was using, they would have needed to be removed, which required a total pita...

always went by arp specs with their supplied lube on the uppers, rtv on the lowers with the 302

I've never bothered retorquing either
