Does anybody know how to fix a rough idle problem on a 94 Mustang GT? I heard something about drilling a hole in the throttle body plate.

Don't drill a hole. Is it the stock TB? What kind of idle issues are you having, just rough, or the rpms are inconsistant?

Try cleaning the mass-air element with a clean, dry Q-tip...
Also, is there an under-hood K/N on this car? What meter? C/L? More info please?

It has a K&N but the throttle body is stock and so is the mass air meter.
it just idles rough

Like Greg said, try cleaning the MAF meter with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol or carb cleaner on the Q-tip, or try it with no solvents first, depends how dirty it looks  The oils from K&N filters are notorious for fouling up MAF meters.

I also have an idle question. We just installed headers & off road H pipe, took off smog pump. Bro capped off some of the vacuum lines. Now she won't idle just dies. Which vacuum lines can I cap off & eliminate & which ones can't I?? Please help....Thanks!!

Not to argue, but you should not use a Q-tip to clean your MAF sensor. Also you should not use rubbing alcohol or carb spray- or brake clean for that matter. The only thing that should be used to clean these sensor is non lubricity electrical contact cleaner. Carb spray and brake cleaners can leave residue behind ( depends on the brand) Q-tips leave tiny hairs behind on the sampling element which can cause an inaccurate reading. Again I am not trying to raise an argument, just watching out for a fellow mustang brother.

No argument from me! What about those chamois (sic?) swabs for cleaning VCR heads? They leave no fiber remnants...

Use only Non-Residue Electrical Contact Cleaner.
The wires in the MAF sensor are very delicate.

Becuase of the delicacy of the sample wires the less contact or disruption you can make the better. That's the stuff Kirk!

Have you ever seen that TSB from ford:
Article No.: 98-23-10
Date: 11/23/98
Mass Air Flow (MAF) - Sensor Contamination

It says that there is no "proper" procedure for cleaning the MAF, that Ford says it has to be replaced?

That is true Greg. Ford says that the unit is "non-servicable" however there has been tremendous success by those who properly clean them. Ford uses a cheap Hitachi MAF, unlike GM who uses a heated wire which burns off all the grime sort of like a self cleaning oven. Ford says replace them but clean them with electrical parts cleaner and you will be fine.

Thats the stuff we use at work also. Dont you hate the tamper proof screws they use. They just make it harder for you to clean them!
