i noticed that my coolant is a little down. i dont think i have a head gasket leak (no coolant in oil) but i know that sometimes you could loose it out the exhaust so im a little worried (not to much though) the question i have Being in the car business i have stopped leaks with sealents over the counter like bars. i heard tonight on the speed show that they recomended the bars hea gasket sealer. do you think i should pour some in the radiator to be safe or could it do more damage to other parts like heater core ect... i have smelled coolent in the car so it might be a heater core also. maybe i should do the test through the radiator to see if there are any exhaust fumes comming in but im scared to find out (hehe) i thought i would just used this stuff then feel better, and if there was a leak it would help anyway. the way i see it is the longer i can prolong the repair the better and when it happens then i will worry about it at that time and then (spend more money to upgrade, maybe porting the heads ect... anyone try this repair on a high output stang motor

I wouldnt use it if you have another option. I would pressure test it, to find the leak, if you are smelling coolant through the vents its a good chance its a heater core, and man do those suck to fix. Good Luck

If it is the heater core it would be easier to just pull the hoses and cap it since you likely don't use it anyway. I have used the sealant before, but had no change in coolant level. All the stangs I have owned always ran a little low. I have been told the sealant does more harm than good, because it tends to plug stuff up. With the amount of money you have invested in that motor, I wouldn't take a chance with a $1 can of sealant. Pressure test it and do it the right way the first time.

Yea, have to agree, don't use that crap, it tends to clog the rods in the radiator and make the car run hotter. John's suggestion to by-pass the core is good for now, then if you no longer smell coolant, you can figure that is the trouble. Look for moisture under the carpet on the passenger side.

I concur. Don't mess with the pour it in fix stuff. If you have access to it, add some coolant dye to it, run it for a couple days, (around town/wherever you go), and they blacklite it. If the heater core is leaking any amount, you should be able to pick up traces of leakage out the drain tube (in engine compartment, passenger side, low).
Kind of a pain to see sometimes, but maybe on your application, it'd be easier. (aftermarket headers, etc. etc).
But again, highly advise NOT adding bars leak, (or any other type engine plugger), to your coolant system.
Good luck. :>)

Better yet never trust a salesman. They are gonna tell you what you want to hear to sell the product. That is what puts food on their table.
