I'm upgrading to 31 spline axles so i purchased a used trac loc from a `99 V8 Explorer, it has some miles on it and i wanna change the clutches. Can someone help? How do i remove the S-Spring? Do i need to remove that shaft that goes thru 2 of the spiders gears first? I need a walk thru

I got started and i can't believe how simply it was to rebuild the diff! But now i have a bump in the road, how the hell do i get the S-Spring back in! that sucker has no give. I'm trying to compress it in a bench vise, but no luck yet.

Never mind guys, i'm all done!
It wasn't too bad, all it took was a C-clamp and a trusty hammer and i finally got the SOB in, now i need my axles! :D

Yep that is all anyone would have told you to do anyhow. So good job. Did you add an extra clutch pac to really tighten that t-lok up? If you didn't you should consider it.

No i haven't. will that really benefit me? I don't have any extra clutches, except the old ones though.

you can use one old one on each side if you dont have a new one

I'll live without an extra one, i don't want to put the effort in to rebuild it again. This should last me a long time and once it does crap out on me, an Eaton will be next.

Where'd you get the used trac-loc? What did it run you? Wanna help me rebuild one? :D

Ebay for $85, and the carbon fiber clutches for $60 off Ebay as well. Summit sells their clutches for $85. I'd gladly give you a hand Tim if you'd like. Since it was my first time it took me about a half an hour. I'm selling my stock Trac Loc with 4100 miles on it right now on EBay!

A rebuild kit can be had cheaper from summit. Cheaper than 60 bucks i thought, more like 45 i think.

I imagine if you look you probably could, but i called Summit and the guy told me it was $85, so i looked elsewhere and stumbled across the EBay ones. Are you upgrading to a 31-spline set-up or staying with a 28-spline?

31 spline for sure. I want to be able to actually run the car at the track with the SLicks.

Cool, i went with some Moser 31's to run DR's (275/50/15). Let me know if you find a cheaped used carrier. If i can't physically help you, i can walk you thru it.
