What is the best route to take for your postive lines when mounting your battery in the trunk location? Is it safe to tie-wrap it to the sub frame connectors? Any ideas would be most helpful.

Anytime I have relocated the battery to the trunk I run the cable inside the vehicle. Usually right under the door there is kind of a cable tray to run stuff to the back. Then I poke through the fire wall right near the starter. I don't know what NHRA or IHRA rules are on the subject, but I remember when I worked with car audio ISCAA said you where only allowed so many inches of exposed (outside the vehicle) battery cable.

personally I think it depends on what the track regulations are. If it were strictly a street vehicle, I'd run my lines under the car. I did that for my car stereo amp, and it was 4 gauge. Find out what your track regulations are and take it from there :thumbs_up

That's what I've always done. Never any problems, but like the other people said I'm not sure about track regulations.

I agree 100%. It's safer i think and it will be nicely hidden by the carpet.

I don't know what the rules say for track use, but if you are running a positive battery cable through the passenger compartment, while still having your starter solenoid in the stock location (under the hood), I would think that is a big no no. I think the proper way to do this is to run your solenoid in the trunk close to your battery, then the cable running from the solenoid to the starter is only hot when you turn the key to start the car.
I don't know about you, but having a continually hot(electrically) cable in the car at all times, with little to no free air movement for cooling with lots of burnable carpeting on top of it, kind of scares me...

Have you ever touched your battery cable? Didn't think so, if that wire is ever really hot, hot enough to burn, you've got some serious amperage problems on your hands. A battery cable doesn't need cooling, if your car is wired right and your not drawing a ton of amps, the wiring should be fine. Do you realize how many constant 12V wires are under the dash? Your battery cable should be run like the others stated, through your firewall and under the strip in the door kick plate. Running any wires under the whole length of the car just seems like hack work to me. Just my .02 of course.

What he said. The main battery cable to the starter MUST be sized so that even if the starter motor was cranking for 5 minutes straight it won't cause the cable to melt down or start a fire.

I never said the battery cable under normal use would ever get hot to the touch. Its when something out of the ordinary happens. Like the insulation breaking down over time and somehow creating a short... Or a misshap at the track....crazy things happen..you know that as well as I do...I just feel safer not having the cable in the passenger compartment....

I just rewired my whole car. & ran the wire on the inside of the car, my old setup was outside of the car. NHRA or IHRA do not have rules on this issue, just on how the battery & switch are mounted in the car.
I would run it whatever way is the shortest way. the longer the wire the less power you will have at the end of the wire oppsite the battery.
I did add a master cut off switch under my dash so I can shut the power off form my drivers seat if anything happened or for when you have to sit in the stageing lanes for an hour.
