View Full Version : Optimum gear for this setup?

My car is running 11.0@126 on motor. The car weighed in at 3318 with me in it right after this run. I am running a TKO with 4.10's and MT 26X10.5X15 ET Drags.

I know the car is capable of breaking into the high 10's as is and without having to drop anymore weight out of it. I have just ordered a set of 28X10.5X15 ET Drags and was wondering which gear would be better for me and my goal of breaking into the 10's on motor?

I have done several gear ratio calculators and they come in between 4.30 and 4.56 gears as optimum. Without my dyno sheet in front of me (I am at work, sheet is at home) I am thinking my last pull showed peak HP at 6500 rpm (I will check for sure when I get home). What gear would you guys run and why? I am leaning towards the 4.56 with the taller tire but think the 4.30 may be enough too? I am not sure, what has been your experiences with a similar setup and what did you run for gears? Thanks in advance to all who reply.

BTW, Ed Curtis did the combination for me and I do have a call into him but he is very busy and has not responded yet.

What rpm are you going thru the traps at now ? Going up a tire size and putting the 4:30's in should be a wash as far as RPM thur the traps give or take a little. What is you 60' If your motor makes max hp at 6500 the ? is how much and how fast does it fall off after that. If it only falls off a little to say 6800 and then dives big time I'd go with the 4:56. If it dives big time at 6500 then the 4:30's are the hot ticket.

Good luck

I usually go through the traps at about 6600 to 6700. The dyno sheet is at home so I can't say for sure what it is doing after the HP maxes out but I seem to remember that it was a very gradual drop off. I will check for sure after I get off work and check it out.

I just spoke to Ed Curtis and lightened 4.56's is what I am going to get.
