Got the Flexalite black magic fan on my car. I was cruising around last night and I checked my gauges and my temp gauge was sky high. A few bars below 270  So I pulled into the nearest parking lot and shut it off. I was expecting a f'ked up radiator hose or something, but nope. Fan wasn't even on. The switch was.... So I checked all my connections, checked the ground, everything was fine. Pulled the fuse, also fine. I noticed when I reconnected the fuse, with the switch still being on, I pushed the fuse in and I heard the fan motor click once like it was trying to switch on, but nothing happened. I unhooked all the fan wires and spun the blade and it wasn't seized or anything so I don't get it... Think the motor is bad? I saw the same fan in Summit for 219 bucks... anywhere I can get it cheaper? Anyone got one for sale?

Are you sure everything is hooked up correct? Are there two thick power leads to the fan? Is there a relay? Are you sure it is a Black Magic or is it the wannabe Proform fan? Is there power coming out of the switch? Is there power at the fan? The fuse being good doesn't mean jack. You need to check for power at the fan with a test light or volt meter. All these questions need to be answered. Double check the wiring with the instructions. Black Magic fans have 2 thick power leads, a ground and optional A/C connection and optional manual switch. Everything needs to be wired correctly or the fan will do exactly what you are describing.

It could be a proform, but I'm not sure. But I know the fan is getting power and the switch is getting power because the switch is a lightup style and when I plug the fuse in, I hear the fan motor click once or twice trying to start, but nothing happens. The fan has 5 connections up top. I know the one on the bottom all by itself is for an air conditioning relay, so I don't have that in use. I don't have a volt meter handy, but all the connections are good, the fan clicks like it wants to start, but doesn't...thats pretty much all the info I have, but I think I can make a good guess that the fan is JUNK!

I also forgot to mention that I took the backplate off from the fan motor and there are magnet junks everywhere. Some of the magnets from the side of the motor housing have cracked in half or quarters and some of them came loose from the housing and got all ground up in the windings. So judging from that, I'd say shes ready for the garbage. What's so bad about proforms anyway? They look identical to the black magic.

You might be right that the fan is junk because of the broken pieces if they are actually broken pieces. However you should check for power at the fan regardless. Even if the fan is junk you might find a problem that caused a short. Is the motor clicking or is a relay or circuit breaker clicking? The light lighting up on the switch means nothing. Its a grounded switch with a light just to look pretty. It doesn't mean that there is power to the device it is controlling. You could unhook the fan completely and the switch would still light up. The light activates when the switch is fliped to complete the circuit. Power is allowed to run through the switch which intern cause the light to turn on. It is strictly cosmetic. I'm not trying to bust your balls here but I've had way to many customers in the past make self diagnostics and never test anything. For them the repair was usually triple what it would have cost them to do it right the first time. Take your time, check everything and do the job right.
Oh, anything Proform is junk. Proform is a low budget poor quality company. Stay far away.

yeah but the similar actual black magic fan is 219 bucks in summit or jegs, proform from jegs is....125. I can't even afford the proform one right now, not till payday anyway. But looking at the specs, they are identical, both pull the same amount of amps, pull the same 2800cfm of air, both have the 4 wire hookup with the ac relay if needed, 180-240º thermostat, same fan blade design, same shroud design, but the only difference is the black magic is 18x16x14 1/4, where the proform is 18x16 1/8x14
