View Full Version : Brake noise - I'm losing my mind!!

I replaced the rotors, all the bearings and pads. Greased all the bearings well and took care to do everything right. I had a squeak coming from the pass. side front before doing this. Checked everything and came up with a warped rotor. Hence I got new ones.
I still get a squeak when i am turning right or lightly pressing the brakes. Should I brush it off as pad noise or what? I don't know what else to do to it, I am going insane!
Thanks for any thoughts you have.

this is easy to fix: louder exhaust
Seriously though, it could just be the pads making a bit of noise. See what happens after a few hundred miles.

My exhaust is already quite loud.....lol
I will let her go for awhile I guess, it just bugs the crap out of me.
One thought I had, (and will go out and check it) is that my brake line might have a loop in it on that side. Could that be a cause possibly?
might be if it's pulling the line tight and causing it to rub a bit when you are turning...hard to say though.

Try putting some grease the back of the pads. The metal backing plate may be rubbing back and forth on the caliper piston making it squeak

I would use Hi temp silicone grease not only on the backing plate of the pads, but also on the caliper pins/slides. AC-Delco silicone lube is rated at 2,000 degrees F. I don't know what pads you used, but ceramic pads are more forgiving and have less noise issues. Cheap rotors also don't have the same dampning qualities. OEM rotors have a higher carbon content that is less noise prone.

I think it's a loose nut behind the steering wheel!
Have you check the blinker fluid? I heard when that gets low your brakes start to squeak. :thumbs_up

I had the same problem one time when I replaced my pads and rotors. So, Joel told me to take it back apart and take a sander and scuff up the rotors going from the center to the outer lip. This will make a rough face to the rotor causing the pad to not have a super smooth surface to be pressed against when braking causing a squeak. Sounded crazy to me, but anytime I have a squeek while braking I have tried this and it has always fixed the problem.
That is the only other thing I could come up with that everyone else hasn't already stated.

Even you Michelle! lol
Now take it easy on poor Mike, he is still getting over the missing parts on the exhaust. :D

I would check to make sure that there is no grease on the rotors if there is clean it off with brake clean. if there isn't sometimes there's extra metallic on pads just take them out and scuff them up a little bit..
good luck
