Heater core ?

It looks like my heater core is starting to leak. I changed it when I first got my car like 5 yrs ago. I'll probably bypass it for the time being.

How is it that it coould go bad in five years and only 12K miles on it? Anyone else ever have this problem?

I will change it soon, is there any other company reccomended to use for a good piece?
