Are the equal length worth the extra money? I want to get some headers, but dont know what type or brand to get. I was leaning toward BBK or FMS, if I were going to get equal I would have to go with the BBK. Any thoughts? Thanks

I run 1 5/8" equal length shorties made by BBK and love them. They pump the exhaust into a 2.5" BBK x pipe and everything installed with zero problems. As far as equal to unequal I am not to sure of the performance difference, but they do sound different and I think the equal length headers help even out the exhaust pulses for a more even flow. Same with the x-pipe.

most equal length shorties are more involved when it comes to the installation, and leave little room for plug changes...hp difference between them is minimal

go with whatever you can find for the lesser price or better quality finish

from experience, both bbk and mac's will need to have the welds cleaned up inside the flange/primary areas

what do you mean cleaned up? Does it increase the performace of the header by doing that? Cuz I just happen to have mine off the car so if it is a good thing then I will have to do that and I don't have any issues with plug changes either.

Equal length shorty headers are about 13 inch primaries. Unequals vary for 4 to 13. I like the equals better, but I am not sure what the hp difference is. But if they were worth 1 more I would get them.

Take a look at your exhaust ports/gaskets/flanges/welds. If the port has been opened up often times the gaskets and flanges will be restricting the port. It is possible to gain power by verifying that the exhaust path is unrestricted by doing a little clearancing in that area with a grinder. If you do have to grind the welds down be careful not to remove too much. I've heard of people doing that but I've never done it myself. If you believe that i have a bridge for sale too.....

I ran into a problem once. I had Equal Length Headers and bought a DSS 306 LongBlock with Trick Flow Track Heat Heads and when droping the engine in the header on Passenger side was against the inner Fender... I tried different engine mounts I checked everything to make sure it wasn't an error on my part. I was forced to install shorty headers to remedy the problem. Don't know if anyone else ever ran into this problem? They were Mac Equal lengths. I ended up buying Ceramic BBK shorties. I thought I would share that incase it would happen to you. :)
